Chapter 984
They looked at each other and shrugged. Chet's eyes couldn't help but widened a little.
"It's me..."
Frederick answered the call and his tone was neither warm nor cold. Soon, an icy smile appeared at his lips, "Fifty million? Haha... that's not much!"
His fingers tapped lightly with his eyebrows slightly knitted. Was she carrying out a daylight robbery?
Frederick looked at Chet, who was sitting opposite of him. He made a gesture. At once, Chet understood and replied with an "OK" gesture.
Frederick snorted and continued to say.
"Haha, do you take me as a fool? How do I know if you're really 'Danica' and whether the medicine you're giving me is the real antidote or not? The money can be negotiated! We will pay as we get the goods. Otherwise, everything is off the table!" "Trust? Who are you to even talk about trust? Quit talking nonsense. I still need to consider the credibility of this incredible story that you made up!"
"Yes, I'll wait for your news..."
Seeing Chet nodding his head, Frederick then hung up the phone. Almost at the same time, Chet exclaimed, "She's near Promise Garden!"
"It really is her!"
"Did she ask you for money?" Hearing just a few words, Chet had already make a rough guess, "Is she really getting over it, or does she have something else up her sleeve?"
Sweeping his gaze across the table, Chet was more inclined towards the former assumption of his. In fact, from the beginning to the end, he felt that Danica's behavior was like getting blood from a stone, and her struggles were meaningless. Her actions were all too impulsive. The reason why she dared to do so was that her life was coming to an end soon anyway, and she had nothing to worry about! However, a child appeared all of a sudden at the moment. It had to have affected her greatly!
"She thinks that she can mess with me! Do you know how she poisoned Alicia?"
Upon hearing Frederick's words, Chet shook his head in a daze. They had never found out the actual cause of that, and they hadn't even discovered any contact between the two of them.
"The hospital. They were once in the same hospital! It should be that time when Victoria's stomach bled, and she was hospitalized. Alicia went to the hospital to look after her for a few days. All she needed to do was to cut her skin, even just a little! It's so hard to prevent, isn't it?"
"Did she just tell you?"
Seeing Frederick nodding his head, Chet said, "It seems that she wanted to gain your trust, so she came clean with you!"
That time, it seemed to be full of sincerity!
"What are you going to do?"
"It's better to get it settled once and for all! If fifty million is enough to solve the problem, it's worth it, but I still can't trust this person!"
He suddenly stopped what he was doing and said, "I need to set a trap to get rid of this trouble forever!"
He didn't want to waste any more time and energy on her!
"Is there still a need for this?" As he asked, Chet's gaze swept across the table. They already had something that could be used against her. Was it necessary to go through extra trouble for someone who was on the brink of death?
"Yes!" Frederick stretched out his hand and beckoned him to come over. He lowered his head and whispered a few words in his ear.
"All right, understood!"
Indeed, if she lost her freedom completely, it would be over!
Alicia's belly was getting bigger day by day. She felt lazy every day. In the blink of an eye, more than seven months had passed. On that day, she went to the hospital for a routine check-up. When she returned home, she couldn't help giggling. "Miss Blanchard, do you need me to prepare something for you to eat?"
"No need, Myla. You can go and have a rest. I want to be alone for a while!"
After dismissing the maid and closing the door, she went back to the bedside and took out the film. She took a few looks at it happily before putting it back into the bag. Suddenly, a pen rolled to the ground. She bent down and tried to pick it up several times but failed to do so. She had no choice but to get up and kneel on the ground, finally picking it up by hooking it over.
When she went back to the bedside, tears started streaming down her face.
That day, when she was waiting for her turn in the hospital, eight out of ten of the women were accompanied by their husbands. If not, there would be family members to accompany them whereas all she had was a servant!
During the ten months of pregnancy,
women were said to be treated like a
queen. However, she didn't even have someone to pick up a pen for her. For the first time, waves of grievance washed over her. Wiping hertears away, she felt lonely and started sobbing.
"Dad, Mom, Nicholas, I miss you all, I miss home..."
Right after she said that, she could not wait any longer. She turned around and rummaged for her cell phone in a hurry. As soon as it was turned on, countless missed calls and messages appeared. At that moment, she could not help bursting into tears. "Ally, where are you? I miss you very much..."
"Are you still mad at me? Why didn't you answer my calls or reply to my text messages? Baby, I'm sorry. I've done and said so many terrible things that hurt you. Ally, I didn't betray you. I have my own difficulties..."
"I miss you. I think I've drunk too much! Ally, did you hear that? Are you there?"
"Ally, you have to wait for me. Don't give up on H
me...
Listening to his voice messages, he was choked with sobs and his voice had traces of hoarseness and uncomfortableness. She burst into tears as she held onto her cell phone, her eyes instantly turning into crescent moon-like shapes. "Hubby... I believe in you. I knew it!"
Alicia was about to respond to his texts, but on second thought, she
paused before hurriedly wiping her tears away and exited the screen, "No. You made me so sad. How can I let you off so easily? I won't tell you first. I'll let you suffer for two more days!" Alicia muttered.
It was time to pack! She would head back to Casterwich City the next day!
She giggled.
She stood up while caressing her belly, bursting into another series of giggling.
The servant outside the door heard the commotion and pushed the door open anxiously, "Miss Blanchard, are you all right?" Why was she crying and laughing at the same time?
"I'm fine! Myla. I'm so hungry. Let's cook a few more dishes for dinner!"
Alicia was so happy that she ran to Myla and gave her a hug. Then, while humming, she went into her dressing room and pulled out her luggage.
After finishing the day's schedule, Frederick and
Chet went back to the office as they talked. Frederick saw a parcel on the table and asked, "What's this?"
With a glance, Chet picked up the paper cutter on the table and asked, "A piece of accessory? Is it the item you ordered?"
Then, an imitated old golden lock fell out of it. Frederick took it and nodded his head, "It's looking real enough!"
"Stefan is really worthy of his
reputation! With just a glance at the metal vessel, he was able to create a fake one that looks almost exactly like it, Silk Couture is really great! However, we still need Mr. Clements to personally request for it, to get Stefan to put it to work!"
Frederick threw it back to him.
"Are you making fun of me? Anyway, about Stefan, other than his bad temper, his workmanship is undeniably amazing!"
After testing the lock and making sure that it was working well, he put it back into the bag. Chet put it into his pocket and said, "I'll get it done as soon as possible!"
At that moment, his cell phone suddenly vibrated. In an instant, he sprung up from the chair.
"Frederick, look! There's news about Alicia! She's taking tomorrow's flight home!"
