Chapter Chapter twenty five
"Oh, look at how much you've missed me, PIC," Carlo said, laughing as he casually picked up the coffee from Damien's desk and took a sip.
Immediately, he spat it out in disgust. "There's no sugar or milk? Seriously? What kind of life do you live?" Carlo exclaimed, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.
Damien facepalmed himself, the last person he wanted to see before his impending doom was Carlo.
"Why are you here?" Damien asked, his voice tinged with a mix of annoyance and curiosity.
"Can't I come and see how my little brother is doing?" Carlo smirked, revelling in the discomfort he was causing Damien.
"I'm not your little brother, so watch how you speak to me. You don't want to end up in the dungeon, do you?" Damien warned, his voice firm.
"Why are you here?" Damien asked again, his tone filled with suspicion.
"Does your father own the country? Just like my name implies freedom, I'm free to go anywhere I like, and definitely not the dungeon," Carlo replied, spreading his hands dramatically with a mischievous smile on his face. "Where's Max? I didn't see him outside," Carlo inquired, scanning the surroundings.
Damien's face darkened at the mention of Max's name. It was true, Max had betrayed him. He hadn't seen him in the past two days, confirming his suspicions.
Carlo noticed Damien's expression and asked curiously,
"Did something happen?"
Damien knew he couldn't ignore Carlo. He was persistent and wouldn't stop bothering him until he got answers. Taking a deep breath, Damien
explained everything that had transpired.
"You've known Max since you were 10, Damien. How can you believe he could do something like that? Are you really that stone-hearted that you couldn't even hear him out? I don't believe Max would ever betray you," Carlo said, his voice filled with disbelief.
Damien felt a pang of guilt and uncertainty. He took out his phone and dialed a number.
"Meet me at our secret spot,"
********
Max stood in front of Damien devastated with his head bow.
"I will only ask you once. Did you do it?". Damien ask with Carlo beside him.
Max fell to the ground.
"No apology is enough for what I have done. I deserve to die". Max said.
He could not tell Damien his father had betrayed him. Even though Max knew the consequences of what he's doing right now. Damien hates lies and betray, he won't hesitate to kill Max's father. Max still loved his father and he just couldn't bear to lose him. How can he let the only person he knows as a parent die??.
Damien angrily called out his sword. For the first time he felt pain, his heart hurt. Damien had high hopes for Max. Damien had been hoping he would deny all the accusations. He kept telling himself Don was lying against Max and Max would never do that but he was wrong.
Damien held his sword tightly with anger and pain, he was ready to cut off Max's head.
But stop halfway.
How could he?
He no longer considers Max, his right hand man. Max was like the little brother Damien never had. Damien has considered Max to be his brother. How can he kill his own brother??
"I won't kill you". Damien said.
Max raised his head up and looked at Damien. Anger, betrayal and sadness was visibly in his eyes. All these years of being with Damien, anger was the only thing Max had always seen in Damien's eyes. "But I will never forgive you for this". Damien said, turning his back on max.
"You are no longer a part of Montenegro. You won't work for anyone in Montenegro. You're no longer my... ". Damien paused and continued.
"Right hand man or brother. I hope I will never see you again Max. The next time I see you I will forget everything we had shared and won't hesitate to cut off your head". With that, Damien walked away. Max stood on the ground sobbing silently.
"I will never forgive you for this father". Max sobbed silently.
Carlo looked at him, a part of him feels Max was hiding something or trying to protect someone?
He patted Max's shoulder a few times and followed Damien.
"Look, Damien. I still can't believe ma.....
"I do not want to hear that betrayal's name again. Is that clear?". Damien yelled.
Carlo shivers back in fear. He knew any mistake could affect his life.
"Don't follow me". Damien snapped as he got into his car and drove off.
"Hey! How am I supposed to get home now?". Carlo yelled.
*•*•*•*•*•*•*.*.*.***.
Damien drove to Crystal's apartment. He knocked a few times before someone answered the door. Adrian opened the door as he stared at Damien in shock.
Damien looked at him curiously.
"Who are you?". Damien asked.
"I should be asking you that". He smirked.
Damien was about to speak again but when Crystal came out looking deadly gorgeous, he fell silent.
"Hi Damien, he's Adrian my best friend". Crystal said.
"Adrian he's Damien my date". She introduced them to each other.
Crystal was clad in a short peach dress, it was an off shoulder dress, revealing her milky and oily skin to the sun.
"Shall we?". Damien said, offering crystal his hand. They got into the car as Damien gave Adrian one last look before driving off.
"I do not like that guy". Damien complained.
"He's gay. You don't have to be jealous". Crystal smirks, teasing him.
Damien looked at her in a surprised way.
Jealous? He wasn't. He had seen something in the so-called Adrian eyes which no human should have.
Crystal probably won't understand.
"Just be careful around him". He said.
"Careful?". Crystal repeat.
"Do you understand the meaning of best friend? We have been living together for more than three years. He won't hurt or betray me". Crystal said proudly. "What if he betrays you one day? ". Damien asked.
"I will try to understand why he did that because there is always a reason for every action". Crystal responded.
There is always a reason for every action?
Was there a reason for Max's betrayal? He had tried to read his mind earlier but Max had blocked his mind, which was the reason he was more upset. Why would he do that if he had not sold him out?
As they reach the expensive looking restaurant in the black Camaro that Damien drove. Damien got out of the car and opened the door for crystal. She walk out of the car holding onto his hand. "How cute of you trying to be a gentleman". She tease him.
He led her into the restaurant. Crystal looked at the expensive decorations everywhere. It smells so nice there.
She noticed there was no one else except the two of them.
"He must have booked the whole restaurant ". She thought.
A waiter leads them to a secluded table in the back which was specially decorated.
"Do you like it here?". Damien asked, referring to the restaurant.
"NO".
