Don't Play With My Soul

Chapter 44

Zenia's

POV

It was dark out.

"Get up, Zenia!" Madison commanded.

"Why are you even helping me, Madison?" I didn't trust her. As far as I knew, Madison had been nothing but trouble since the day we first met.

"I'll explain everything to you later, but we need to move. Come on, get up." She circled her arm around my neck and held me up.

"How far again Madison? I think I'm going to pass out."

"We just have to keep moving. The van is parked up ahead."

We started on our feet again.

Finally, we arrived in a clearing and we spotted where a black Range Rover was parked. Madison helped me get in the passenger's seat and she got behind the wheel. "Don't even turn that key Madison!" Anton appeared in front of the van.

"Seat belt Zenia," Madison whispered. I fastened my seat belt very quickly.

"Madison! I don't want to hurt you, but I will if you don't do what I say!" Anton warned. He aimed his gun at Madison.

"Oh my goodness! Madison, let's just give up." I didn't want to see anymore blood.

"Anton! You're my brother, but if you don't move out of the way, I swear, I'll run you over!" Madison called back, and I almost had a heart attack when she mentioned brother. Anton and Madison are siblings? How?

Anton fired, causing the windshield to shatter. I screamed but Madison started the van and moved swiftly towards Anton.

"Duck!" Madison yelled out, and I did exactly that.

I heard another shot from Anton's gun and Madison let out a scream. She didn't stop the vehicle, she kept going and Anton jumped out of the way right before getting hit. He began shooting after us but Madison hit the accelerator. I raised my head, turned and noticed that we'd lost him.

I let out a breath of relief.

"How bad are you hit?" I asked Madison.

"My shoulder. Don't worry about me, I'll live."

"Thanks so much Madison."

"You need to call home. You need to get EJ and Evan over here right now."

Madison continued driving. We entered onto a narrow street with very large buildings. The Range Rover began rocking from side-to-side.

"What's that?" I asked with a panic.

"Shit! We've got two flat tires. That bastard must have put bullets through them. We'll have to stop Zenia."

Madison managed to stop the van alongside a phone booth. She gave me some loose change and I carefully got out and headed for the booth. I needed to call Jasmine.

After the forth ring, she answered. "Who's this?"

"It's me Jassy, Zenia. I really need you guys help me, Jassy. I'm so afraid right now, but Madison helped me escape. Anton is still after us. Can you please tell the guys to come and take me home?"

"Zen, I'm so happy to hear your voice. EJ, Ethan and Evan are already in England, and they're looking for you. Wait a moment so I can give you a contact number for EJ."

"Hurry Jasmine!" I looked around the environment and the streets, afraid that Anton would pop up at anytime.

"Okay. Here's the number." Jasmine gave me a number that I could reach EJ on directly. I ended the call and dialed the digits she gave me. "Pick up EJ, please pick up." I looked heavenward as the line rang. "Hello," his voice answered and a smile instantly appeared on my lips. He had come for me.

"EJ, it's Zenia."

"Zenia, where are you? Tell me where you are so I can come get you right now!"

"Oxford. At a place called Venice and Sedan. I'm with Madison. She helped me escape EJ, but we have flat tires. We can't move."

"I'm coming right now Zenia, but it will take some time to get to you. Stay put and stay out of sight!"

"Okay. And EJ, just in case I don't get another chance to say this to you again, I want you to know that I love you. I love you so much." Tears formed in my eyes.

"You'll get to say it to my face, baby. I'm already in the car with the others and we're coming. Hang up and hide, now."

I hung up and ran back to Madison. She was tending to her bullet wound.

"I got EJ. He's already in England and they're on their way here."

"Oh thank God."

"He said we should hide."

"Yeah. Lets get out of this vehicle."

Madison opened the door and we looked around for a place to conceal ourselves. We spotted a cute house with a nice, old lady sitting by herself on the porch, having a cup of tea. I walked up to her entrance. "Good evening, ma'am. Can you let us in please?" I asked.

The old lady's eyes left her teacup and looked in our direction. "Who are you?" her soft voice asked.

"My name is Zenia, and this is Madison. There's someone--" but Madison nudged my shoulder, stopping me.

"You'll scare her," she whispered.

"Ma'am, we're apart of a prayer group called Destined To Live. We go from neighborhood to neighborhood to greet and spread the word of The Way Of Life to our senior citizens." "Oh. Please, come in, come in," she gestured.

Madison pushed in the front gate and we walked up to the porch.

"Lets get indoors and have some more tea." She took up her teacups, opened her front door and we followed her inside.

"You have a lovely home," I said.

"Thank you dear, but please look out for Patches."

"Patches?" Madison and I asked in unison.

"Yes, my kitty cat."

"Oh."

The kind, old lady gave us both a cup of tea sweetened with honey. I drank mine hastily. I was so hungry and exhausted.

"Now, what was it that you do?" she asked once we had settled.

"Actually, we're not who we said we are. We're hiding from someone who's out to hurt us." Madison showed her the wound on her shoulder and I showed her my leg.

"Oh dear. What bastard would hurt two beautiful young ladies?" she asked, traces of anger and confusion showing on her face.

"There's someone coming to get us, but can we please stay here until that person arrives?" Madison asked her.

The front door pushed in. A woman walked in with a sleeping child in her arms. "Mom, who's this?" she asked to the old lady. "Zenia and Madison," I answered.

"What are you doing in my mother's house with blood all over you?" she asked, narrowing her eyes at us.

"We're in desperate need of some help. There're people after us to hurt us--"

"This isn't a police station! And you being here can put my mother, me and my child in danger. Get out of here!"

"Ma'am please, our car has flat tires, and we don't know where to go. We've called someone to get us, but it will take some time." I was crying.

"I don't care. You're practically dirty. Get out before I call the police."

Madison and I looked at the old lady but she wasn't looking back at us. She was fidgeting with her fingers with her head bowed.

"Thank you. Good night." Madison and I walked out the door and out the gate.

We headed to a park, which had a clear view of the street. "How will we know when EJ gets here?"

"I have no idea. I guess they'll start yelling," I answered with a laugh," We should have called the cops."

"Bad idea. The McCalisters control most of them in and around London."

"How are you and Anton brother and sister?" I asked as I got a kid's swing.

"His father impregnated my mother. End of story."

I noticed she didn't want to talk much about it so I let it go. It didn't matter to me anyway.

After three hours of waiting in the dark, a car pulled up and Anton got out. My heart raced. I tapped Madison on the arm and pointed out to the street.

"Lets hide. He knows we're around here because he saw the Range."

We got off the swings and headed for the taller trees. A flashlight spotted me right before I could hide myself.

"Over there Anton!" I heard a female's voice and saw running figures moving towards us.

Madison and I took off running but they quickly caught up to us. I was pushed onto the ground and Madison was punched in the jaw, sending her crashing into a sandbox. "Get up!" Anton yelled at me.

I remained on the ground.

"I swear, I'll shoot you if you don't get up right now!"

"Why are you doing this to me, Anton? What have I ever done to you to deserve this?" I asked, trying to seek some pity from him.

"One word. Money," he answered with a smirk and held onto my hair and began dragging me.

I screamed in pain as I felt the tracks being ripped from my actual hair.

But then the pulling stopped and Anton was laying down next to me with a figure pounding mercilessly at his face.

"Zenia, are you alright?" Evan's voice came from behind me.

"EJ! EJ! He's had enough!" EJ's father tried to pull him away from Anton's face, but EJ wasn't through with him.

I watched as he took Anton's very own gun and beat his face in.

Ethan managed to pull him off, only when EJ became tired of hitting Anton.
