Her Revenge Contract

Chapter 80

Xavier's

POV

I was looking at Kate while she was sleeping; tears were still streaming down her face. I wasn't sure if Kate could accept the truth or not, or if what Julia told her would push her over the edge. What I did know was that Kate was hurting inside, and I wanted to take the pain away from her.

I took a seat next to her on the bed and carefully moved my hand over her hair, making sure not to wake her and trying to comfort her.

My heart scrunched painfully in my chest, feeling how badly hurt she was.

It reminded me of my own demons when I lost my parents. The pain never leaves; it only heals on the surface.

My thoughts raced back to the days when my parents were still alive. They were such a happy couple.

That's what I wanted, the same as my parents had-just a small piece of my own heaven, full of love, happiness, and respect.

I sighed and got up.

Every day, I see Kate losing a little bit of herself.

The only thing I could do now was stand by her side and hope I could ease her pain. Maybe one day she will let go of that pain, or at least I will try dying.

I left Kate's room, closing the door behind me.

Julia was given a room in the pack house, and Kelly helped her settle in. The doctor gave her something to calm down, and when she told Kate what she heard, she blamed herself for not stopping it. A sad breath escaped my lips, and I wondered how far Greyson got in investigating John.

Something didn't add up. Something was missing in the major puzzle when it got to John.

"Is Luna sleeping?" Greyson asked as I walked into the living room. I didn't expect him to be there, which only meant that he needed to discuss something important.

"Yes," I answered, and I walked to the alcohol cabinet and poured myself a bourbon.

Greyson became silent behind me, and I knew he was waiting for the right moment to spill the beans.

"Greyson," I growled under my breath, "speak your mind or go home. I am tired."

My voice sounded tired in my own ears, and I sighed, dropping my shoulders.

The last couple of weeks have taken their toll on my body and mind.

I was worried.

"Is it the right time?" He asked, stirring his coffee and watching me.

"Will anything be the right time?" I asked, annoyed, turning around and taking a seat.

Greyson let out a breath, lifted his eyebrows, and sat forward, then lifted his gaze, reading me.

"Are you done trying to read me?" I asked, shifting my head to the side and narrowing my eyes at him.

"No," he said, and he pulled a yellow file out and dropped it on the coffee table next to me.

I scrunched my eyebrows together, a bit confused.

"What is this?" I asked, shifting my gaze back to Greyson.

"Well," he said, "my dear Alpha, this is the reason why Brenda is back, and the contents are..."

Before he finished, I grabbed the file, and the photos dropped to the floor.

My eyes widen as I pick up the photos, and a cold chill runs down my spine.

"How?" I asked, bewildered, looking at the pictures.

"Not sure," Greyson answered.

"How old?"

Greyson kept quiet, and I lifted my gaze toward him.

"Is he mine?" I asked.

"I am not sure," he answered. "The age is close, but we all..."

"I knew she was f*cking the warrior behind my back!" I sneered, closed the file, and dropped it back on the table. "He could still be..."

"I want proof," I said, pissed, "why will she keep this from me?"

"I think she only found out after she left," Greyson defended. "Maybe she doesn't even know who the father is."

"I doubt that," I argued, taking a sip from my drink. "Brenda knew exactly what she was doing. She knows, and before she thinks of using the child as leverage, I want to know if he is mine." Greyson nodded and pinned his gaze on me.

"What would you do if he was yours?" He asked.

"We will cross that bridge when we get there!" I growled.

"Very well," Greyson answered, yet he didn't get up and leave.

"There is more?" I asked after a moment of silence, and I slowly turned my gaze toward him.

"Yes," he answered.

"And?" I growled, pissed.

How could Brenda keep such a big secret from me? Is that the reason she came back? Is this what she will be using to get back into the pack? Will she use the child to force her way back into my bed?

Ray growled ferociously and walked forward. He didn't like that idea. He was in love with Kate.

We all knew that Brenda was staying in town among the humans. None of the Alphas wanted to take her in. She was very quiet after I refused her entrance into the pack, yet I had a feeling she had been watching every move I made from a distance, waiting to strike at the right time to blindside me.

"Like she did when she rejected us and walked out?" Ray commented. "What did we see in her?" he growled.

"The bond..." I said, "That was the only thing that kept us together."

When Brenda rejected us, I healed faster than I thought I would.

I didn't drown my sorrows in the bottle or seek cheap women to entertain me, yet I felt almost relieved when she was gone.

Yes, it did hurt, but...

"Her mate was killed," he said. "She did tell you the truth."

"But?"

For some reason, I had a feeling there was something sinister hiding behind his death; otherwise, Greyson would have spilled the beans already.

"It seems the reason he is dead is because he screwed someone over," Greyson said, taking a sip of his coffee.

"What was he involved in?" I asked, sitting forward.

"Disappearance of she-wolves..."
