Hired Love

Chapter 4

Roman knew the gears in her head were running.

When Grace had said she needed a favor, he definitely hadn't thought it'd be to act as the fiancé of her best friend. He wished desperately he was anywhere but here, but he owed Grace a lot. His cousin had gotten him out of a lot of shit with

woman he'd recklessly gotten involved with. He didn't know how but she knew how to get rid of people. It was a frightening thought, but he knew he could always count on her to keep a crazy ex away.

It was the first time she'd asked him for anything, and he figured it was too small a price to pay in return. The woman he was supposed to be helping, Stacy, wasn't what he'd expected. She was beautiful, sultry with an ass he wouldn't mind having in his bed, bare and inviting. He hoped to God she hadn't noticed him staring at her ass while they were on the queue.

Grace had mentioned her boyfriend had cheated on her with her sister. Sheesh, the man must've been either blind or crazy. Roman didn't know what her sister looked like but if it was anything close to Stacy, then he would be really jealous. "You're thinking too much. If you let yourself go, who knows, you could actually have some fun this week." He said. He hadn't lied when he said it was a favorite pastime. At least, not technically. It was a relief to be away from the studio for a while and he got to play the role of being the fiancé of the sexist woman he'd seen in a while. What more could a man ask for?

"Fun?" She started at him at though he suddenly grew pink horns. "There is nothing fun about any of this. We're going to be in my home, trying to convince my family that we're hopelessly in love and getting married. My mother's health is at stake here if things don't go as planned."

A light bulb went off in his head. He dipped a hand into his jean pocket and brought out the little box he'd hurriedly purchased before he'd boarded the last plane. Stacy's eyes were curious. "Is that what I think it is?"

He hummed, holding out his hand. It was all funny, he thought as she placed her small one in his much larger one. When he'd imagined himself proposing to a woman, he never pictured it to be a façade or in a plane. To put things plainly, he'd never pictured himself asking anyone to marry him simply because he didn't want to get married. His parent's marriage had been a complete disaster and he'd sworn the entire activity off his life. Besides, why get married and be stuck with one person for the rest of his life when he could have as many women as he wanted?

There was nothing he enjoyed more than being nestled in the wet heat between a woman's legs. Listening to the soft purr of her throat or experiencing the painful yet exhilarating scratch of her nails down his back as he drove her to complete surcease, those were the moments he looked forward to.

"Stacy, will you marry me?" He was aware of his teasing tone. She didn't seem to like it very much judging by the disapproving look on her face. Roman decided he liked teasing her. She waited for him to slip onto the right finger then snatched her hand back sharply. He couldn't help the laugh that left his mouth.

This was going to be fun, and he was eagerly looking forward to it. Stacy was pissed.

She didn't have time to dwell on her anger as her family's estate came into view. Her hands shook violently, and it really occurred to her how serious this was. Not only did she not want to disappoint her mother, she also didn't want to give Claire the satisfaction of knowing she still loved Matt. It just wouldn't do.

"I'm begging you," The words came out in a whisper. "Don't let me down."

Roman was silent. For some reason, she couldn't bring herself to meet his eyes. It was already embarrassing enough that she was begging him; she didn't want to see the mocking look she was sure he had.

The car that had picked them up at the airport stopped and Stacy new it was now or never. This was it. Everything depended on Roman.

Their bags were carried into the house by male servants that suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Stacy hoped it wasn't overwhelming for Roman. She'd purposely forgotten to mention her parents were rich because she wasn't sure if he'd wanted money. Mayhap he was looking for a way to make more money. A gigolo, perhaps? Grace hadn't exactly stated was it was he did for money. One look at him had the thought flying out the window. No, she affirmed, he didn't look poor. But then again, it had never been hard to act rich.

Her mother came out from the wooden doors. Roman grabbed her hand almost immediately, plastering a very convincing smile on his lips. Really, it was amazing how his entire face lit up. They walked up the stairs to the front door so the woman wouldn't have to climb down.

"Darling," she cooed, and it wasn't hard to see how pleased she was. "I'm so glad to see you."

"You too, mom." She meant the words.

Roman didn't let go of her hand so she wrapped her other hand around her mother. Why didn't he let go of her hand? Her mother pulled away, looking from her daughter to the man next to her. "Now, who do we have here?"
