Married On Paper To The Billionaire

Chapter 25: Nightmare In Beaumont Mansion

They arrived home and found two police cars parked in front of the mansion with their red and blue lights flashing. Both of them were instantly worried and got out of the Rolls Royce as soon as the car pulled to a stop. "What's going on? What happened?" Emilia asked, racing toward the policemen standing near the open front door.

"Good evening, Mrs Beaumont," one of them greeted her. "Please, be calm."

"Why are you guys here?" Kane asked too.

"Let's go inside, please," a female cop said and tried to lead Emilia inside.

"No! Tell me what happened right now!"

"You're back," said Elsie, coming outside. She looked upset and her usually impeccable makeup was ruined with tears. "Please, come inside and sit down."

Kane followed his mother in and Emilia followed suit too. The suspense was killing them but it seemed that everyone was determined to keep mum until they were all inside the house.

Lillian, Samuel and some of the domestic staff were in the living room. Everyone looked scared.

"Can someone please tell us what is going on?" Kane demanded.

Elsie picked up a piece of paper from the table and handed it to Kane and Emilia. They put their heads together to read the content of the paper.

"Now, you will know what it feels like to lose a daughter," Kane read aloud. "What's this?"

"Farida found that in Tiara's crib this evening," Lillian explained calmly although her voice shook.

"And where's Tiara?" Emilia asked.

"She's gone."

"What do you mean by gone?" Kane thundered. "Where did she go to?"

"We don't know," said Samuel. "We've searched everywhere and we can't find her."

"No..." Emilia whispered and ran out of the living room. Kane followed her and caught up with her as she ran and tripped and stood up again to continue her sprint upstairs.

They burst into the children's room at the same time and found the two nannies there, sobbing quietly.

"Where's my daughter?" Emilia screamed at them.

Farida was so distraught that she couldn't speak, so Celia answered the question.

"We don't know where she is, ma'am. We're so sorry."

"I don't get it. Where were the two of you when Tiara disappeared?" Kane asked.

"I'd gone downstairs to return the children's dinner plates," Celia explained. "I left the children here with Farida. They were both asleep at the time. When I got back, I met Farida looking for Tiara."

"I was only away for a few minutes," Farida cried. "I'd gone to the bathroom to relieve myself but I was only gone for a few minutes, I swear!"

The police and the rest of the family were now upstairs and listening to the nannies' recount of what had happened earlier.

"So where is she?" Emilia asked. "How does a sleeping toddler get out of her crib and just walk away? How far can a toddler go within a short time?"

"Are you guys sure you've searched everywhere?" Kane asked.

"Yes, Mr Beaumont," said one of the policemen. "We've conducted a thorough search in the mansion and outside too. We've also issued an amber alert across the city, so everyone's on the lookout for her." "Where's Travis?" Emilia asked.

"Asleep in my bedroom," said Elsie. "There's a bodyguard with him."

"This can't be happening," Emilia said and began to cry. "This is a nightmare! I leave my children alone for a few hours and one goes missing in a house full of adults! How?"

"To be fair, Emilia, we had all retired to our quarters for the night," said Elsie. "If not, we would have seen her."

"Where's Jack?" Kane asked.

"Still in Monaco partying with his friends, I presume," said Lillian.

"And that strange girl? The redhead," Kane asked his sister.

"She left immediately after you and Emilia went out," Elsie answered. "I sent her home myself because I thought it was too late for her to still be here."

"This doesn't make any sense!" He snarled. "If my daughter isn't found tonight, heads will roll!"

One week later, there was still no sign of Tiara Beaumont in the vicinity. The media houses were alerted, the domestic staff were questioned repeatedly, appeals were made to the public, and threats were issued. Still, nothing happened. Emilia fell ill. She couldn't eat or sleep. Her family moved temporarily to the mansion to be with her and do their best to console her.

After all, was said and done, the police decided that it was time to revisit the cryptic note that was found in Tiara's bed on the day she went missing.

"Do you know anyone who might want to do something as cruel as this to your family?" The police detective asked Kane.

"The only person or should I say people, that I can think of is the Banks family," he replied.

"I see..."

"They've had it in for me and my family since Kendra died. They seem to have this crazy notion that I was somehow responsible for her death even though it was an accident caused by Kendra herself." "But how would they have gained access to your home?"

"I don't know."

"Do you conduct background security checks on your domestic staff before hiring them?"

"Yes. Although, there's one new staff member that works for my sister. She claimed to have done some background checks on the girl but I don't know..."

"Are you talking about Serena Filipe?"

"Yes. Have you interrogated her?"

"Yes, and she has a strong alibi. She left your home a few minutes after you and your wife went out that night. She stopped at a convenience store on her way home and from our investigation, the timing checked out." "Hmm... I'm not so sure about that because the footage from the security camera at the gate showed that she didn't leave immediately as my mother claimed. She left about thirty minutes after we did."

"That's interesting. Her roommate said she got home around 9:15 p.m. and that was around the time that the nanny noticed that Tiara had gone missing. The 30-minute departure timeline is definitely a source of concern but everything else about her movement that night is accurate."

"I still believe that whoever took my child is someone who had access to the children's room. All of the domestic staff have been with us for years and we've never had any issues with them. Not even theft."

"This is a big puzzle for sure but we won't rule out your theory about the Banks family. We'll track them down and see if they're somehow connected to this. We can't rule out any possibility just yet." "Thank you, Detective Riley. Let me know if you find anything new," said Kane, getting to his feet. He needed to go and check in on Emilia.

She was propped on their bed, looking pale and gaunt. It had been a struggle to convince her to allow a nurse to administer fluids into her body through IV therapy.

Her family was sitting around her bed and speaking softly to her as if she was dying. Kane hated seeing his wife like this.

"May I have a moment with my wife?" He asked softly with a smile.

"Of course," said Andrew, getting to his feet immediately. "I think we all need some fresh air and Emilia must be tired of seeing our boring faces."

Lara and Chloe got up reluctantly. They didn't want to leave Emilia alone even for a minute but they couldn't deprive Kane of having a private moment with his wife if that was what he wanted. After they left, he sat beside her on the bed and took her hand in his.

"Hey, darling," he said softly. "I don't need to ask how you're doing because I can see it already."

"Have they found my Tiara?" She asked weakly.

"Not yet, but they will."

"I know who did it."

Kane was amazed. "You do? Who is it?"

"Kendra. Even in the grave, she has not ceased to torment me."

"Oh, I see..."

"She snuck into our house and stole our child."

"Kendra is dead. She can't sneak into anywhere much less this house. But don't worry, the police will find her family and question them about the abduction. I know they have something to do with this. I just can't prove it." "I want my daughter back," said Emilia and then she began to cry.

"Please, don't cry anymore, my love. We'll find her. And don't forget that we still have Travis with us."

"Oh, poor Trav is going to be devastated if his twin is never found."

"We'll find her, I promise."

She suddenly stopped crying and looked at Kane with a hard look in her eyes.

"Make sure you find her indeed and when you do, make them pay!"

He didn't need to ask her who 'them' was. He simply nodded his head and said, "I promise you, Emilia. They will pay. All of them!"
