Chapter 70 Alaric Already Knew
Hearing this, Galatea was caught between laughter and tears. Not this again!
"What's the matter?" Alaric teased. "You successfully won over my son, and you're not happy?"
"Alaric, I don't want to discuss this anymore," Galatea pleaded with sheer resignation. "There's the physical aftermath and the psychological ones. I can treat your physical issues, but there's really nothing I can do for your mental ones. Can you please see a specialist for that?"
"So Dr. Galatea thinks I have a delusional disorder?"
"Otherwise, what?" Galatea was on the verge of tears, "I've never even seen your son. I don't even know what he looks like. First, you call the police on me. Then you accuse me of trying to ingratiate myself with your son. Isn't that a classic case of delusion?"
Seeing Galatea react like this seemed to validate Alaric's suspicions, but it was truly incredible. Could Caspian really look so much like his son Harry that she would mistake one for the other?
"You know, I still haven't seen your son," Alaric said. "I've wanted to meet him, but for some reason, I never have."
"Well, I'm sorry, but you still won't get to see him," Galatea said. "Harry and Elisa have gone to the countryside to experience life there. They'll be gone for two weeks."
Two weeks? Alaric still wouldn't see her son.
Alaric pulled out his phone, scrolled through his photo album to find a picture of Caspian, and showed it to Galatea, deliberately asking, "This is your son, right?"
Galatea was startled when she saw Caspian's picture on Alaric's phone. "Why do you have a picture of my son?"
Before Alaric could respond, she angrily accused him, "Are you investigating me? Alaric, what is wrong with you? Our relationship is a sham. I'm just your personal doctor, and yet you have someone spy on my son? What are you after?" From Galatea's instinctual reaction, Alaric believed she wasn't lying at all. So he asked again, "Are you sure this is your son?"
"Of course, I don't recognize my own son?" Galatea retorted.
After this confirmation, Alaric suddenly laughed, amazed that such an absurd situation could actually exist. Caspian and her son Harry looked so similar.
It turned out that Caspian had run away in a rebellious escapade and, by chance, met Galatea, who had mistaken him for her own son. Caspian, who had longed for a mother's love, found himself melting under her tenderness. So, from the beginning, Galatea had never lied. She truly never intended to marry him.
"What's so funny?" Galatea asked, feeling unsettled as Alaric switched from laughing to a deep, pensive frown. "You're not having another episode, are you?"
Hearing her, Alaric snapped out of his thoughts and asked, "It's been many years since your husband passed away. Haven't you thought about remarrying?" "Isn't that a bit of a leap in conversation?" she said.
"Just answer me!"
"Even though I might be considered your subordinate, that kind of question isn't job-related. Why should I have to answer you?" Galatea couldn't stand Alaric's tone - it was a domineering command.
"If one of my female employees starts dating, gets married, then becomes pregnant and has a child, it's bound to affect her work. So you must answer this question for me!"
"It won't!" Since he was so eager to know the answer to this question, Galatea responded, her resolve firm, "I will not marry anyone ever again, never!"
On this matter, Galatea had always been resolute, at least for the time being.
For one, she had been hurt by love before. she didn't want to, nor did she have the courage to embark on another relationship. Secondly, and most importantly, she had been someone's bride only for luck, and the birth of her child had been nothing short of disgraceful.
She didn't even know who the man was, although she firmly believed that her child belonged to that man. However, the DNA results Mrs. Marigold had provided back then did not match.
She was in turmoil and couldn't fathom what exactly had happened back then...
"You sure are faithful when it comes to love," Alaric said sarcastically. "Your man has been dead for so many years, and you still pledge to remain chaste in his honor."
Now that was a joke because, due to her father's strictness, she and Ambrose had never been intimate, and as for having a child with that man, it had been through artificial insemination. Even though she was now a mother, when it came to matters of intimacy, she had no experience whatsoever.
"It's because love is the most unreliable thing," Galatea answered honestly. "I'd rather spend my time reading medical books than dating. The money I earn is always more reliable than any man." Love is the most unreliable thing?
First, she spoke with deep affection about her late husband, and now she was spouting such words. It was clear there was a contradiction there.
Alaric really couldn't figure Galatea out.
"What kind of girls do you like?" Galatea suddenly got curious. Remembering the last joke she made, his big reaction seemed to affirm his normal sexual orientation.
"I'm actually quite curious about this," Galatea asked Alaric with serious interest.
Upon hearing the question, Alaric's expression grew cold as he replied, "I don't know what I like, but I despise women who lecture me with grand truths, who put on an air of moral superiority in front of me!"
"Why don't you just say you hate me and get it over with?" Galatea shook her head in resignation and chuckled. "You, my friend, would be better off with a docile little kitten, the kind who does whatever you say, gentle as water, deeply devoted and wise, and especially one who admires you."
"That's enough!" Alaric interrupted her sharply. "We end this topic here. Tomorrow is Wednesday. You're scheduled to give me acupuncture at the office, and you better not be late."
"Given it's only a three to five-minute walk from here to your office, don't worry, I won't be late this time."
"Good." Alaric glanced at the time, stood up, and announced, "I have to go pick up my son now. I'm off."
"Oh, Mr. Alaric, slow down..." Galatea hadn't finished her sentence when she was met with Alaric's sharp gaze. She quickly corrected herself, "Dear Alaric, take your time leaving..." "Remember, if you get it wrong again, I will have to punish you!"
"I understand," Galatea responded.
After Alaric left Galatea's new place, he felt a mix of emotions, both happy and unhappy.
Alaric went to the school to pick up Harry, who obediently got into the car, as quiet and still as a rabbit, not saying a word.
"Caspian, you really like Galatea, don't you?"
"Yeah." Harry was truly nervous. Why did he keep asking about Galatea?
"Galatea moved just next to Nexus Innovations. You can go see her whenever you want."
Did she move? His mom moved?
"I'll take you to see the new place today."
Alaric was going to take him to see his mom.
