Chapter 75 Kissed Again
Alaric was right in front of her, his entire frame effectively blocking the exit, which irked Galatea tremendously.
"Alaric, you..." she began.
But before Galatea could finish her sentence, he kissed her, sealing her lips with his. This time was different from the last. There was no punishing bite like before this was something else.
Galatea tried to struggle, but she was caught in his embrace, unable to free herself, and her trembling body only seemed to fuel Alaric's intensity.
As Alaric took over, Galatea's body felt like a ship without an anchor in the vast sea, gripping his shirt desperately for air as she approached a choking sensation.
It felt like an eternity before Galatea finally got some space to breathe, gasping deeply for air.
Once she recovered, anger flushed through her, and without warning, she bit down hard on his arm the moment his words ceased.
Alaric let out a muffled groan, then remarked, "You really like biting, don't you?"
Last time, in the hotel room, she had bitten him just as fiercely, and worried about his potential retaliation, she had pushed him away with force, planning to make her escape.
But reaching the door, she realized Alaric had not followed. She suddenly remembered the last time at the hotel, how she had kicked him hard, and he had gotten sick - was it happening again...? Reluctantly, Galatea turned back to his resting room, only to be greeted by Alaric's sarcastic voice, "Ran away, and now you're back? What for?"
Seeing no signs of illness, she felt relieved, yet when she glanced at his arm, where she had bitten him, blood had already seeped through. Had she really bitten him that harshly? "Come and disinfect this," Alaric instructed.
With a sense of guilt, Galatea cleaned the wound with saline solution and applied iodine.
"Done," she announced.
Alaric inspected the wound and then said, "I'm feeling a bit off. You can't leave tonight."
What? Was he faking it?
"Where do you feel unwell?" she inquired.
"It's the discomfort that comes before an episode," replied Alaric. "I might have an attack, and as my personal doctor, you must stay on call."
Really? Galatea was skeptical, but since he said so, she felt she had no choice but to stay. After all, if it turned out to be true and he had a sudden attack with no one around to help, he could die.
Galatea let out a long exhale and said, "Your health is like a ticking time bomb. We'll have to deal with your treatment and its side effects sooner rather than later."
"As you wish." After saying this, Alaric removed his clothes and got into bed, acting as if he was completely alone.
This was Alaric's private resting room at the company. There was only one bed. What was she supposed to do if he was taking up the only bed?
"You sleep here, and I'll go to the adjoining office. If you feel unwell, just call, and I'll come."
After saying this, Galatea turned to leave, but Alaric said, "You've seen what happens when I have an episode. What's the difference between waiting in the office and sending you home?" Galatea fell silent.
"Get up here!" Alaric made room for her on the bed.
"What do you think you're doing?" Galatea warned him fiercely, "Don't think you can take advantage of me. I've still got a needle in my toolkit. Do you believe I could end you with a single jab?" "Galatea, what are you imagining?" Alaric sighed in exasperation. "If I were interested in your body, do you think you could resist? Now get up here, and don't make me say it a third time!" Galatea looked around, then sat down on the couch, grabbed a book from the shelf, and said, "You sleep. If anything happens, I'll be right here to help. I won't let anything happen to you." "I can't sleep with the lights on."
Reluctantly, she reached out and turned off the lights. The room went dark, and the silence felt heavy. all that could be heard was the sound of their mingling breaths.
"Do you plan to sit on the couch all night?" Alaric asked.
"What else?" Galatea replied. "You know I'm a sound sleeper. If you really do have an attack, I can't guarantee I'd wake up."
Alaric chuckled and then turned on the bedside lamp. The soft light illuminated Galatea's face, casting a different kind of beauty.
"What now?" she asked, seeing that he had turned the light back on. "Are you going to sleep or not?"
"I can't sleep with you staring at me."
"This isn't right. That isn't right. What do you want?" Galatea was truly frustrated. Why was this man so difficult?
"Get up here!" Alaric repeated. "If you don't comply, I can't promise I won't do something."
That damned jerk!
With no other option, Galatea lay down on the bed, fully clothed, keeping her distance, "You stay over there, and don't cross the line!"
Alaric gave a snort of laughter and then turned off the bedside lamp, plunging the room back into darkness. He didn't speak again while Galatea lay curled up at the edge of the bed, too afraid to move. The atmosphere was suffocating!
Even though he couldn't see her face, Alaric could clearly hear her breathing, which was erratic with nervousness.
He deliberately shifted his body, a movement that made Galatea scoot further away on the bed, clearly on guard.
"Just sleep, will you? If I wanted to sleep with you, I would have done it by now," he said.
Galatea was speechless.
"You get some sleep and stop worrying about what I'm doing," Galatea shot back.
Alaric's mouth curved slightly, and then he closed his eyes.
Truthfully, he hadn't lied. He had felt quite uncomfortable before, but having Galatea nearby gave him a sense of security.
Moreover, with her presence, his insomnia seemed to be cured he fell asleep surprisingly quickly.
After hearing his steady breathing, Galatea realized he was asleep, and she, too, closed her eyes.
Galatea had no idea when she drifted off, but throughout the night, she dreamt-a man was there, but she couldn't discern if it was Ambrose or Alaric.
Perhaps because the man in her dream had kissed her forcefully, she actually dreamt of someone kissing her so intensely that she couldn't breathe.
In a state of semi-consciousness, she struggled to distinguish dream from reality until suddenly, Galatea's eyes snapped open!
