Chapter 2481
Madam Quartley gave Yuliana a deep stare, "You're thinking that since my eyes aren't clear, in turn, my heart is also confused?
That was exactly what Yuliana meant, but what came out of her mouth was, "Grandma, you've misunderstood. What I meant was, you're bound to be confused, even a more intelligent person would be no exception." Madam Quartley shook her head, "Oh, Yuliana, my heart isn't confused. Did you really think I don't know what you're thinking?"
A trace of uneasiness flashed within her eyes, before she replied drily, "Look at what you're saying, Grandma...what would I even be thinking about?"
Madam Quartley seriously studied her which made Yuliana even more uneasy.
She had never looked at her with such a serious gaze before.
Yuliana avoided Madam Quartley's eyes as she touched her face, "Grandma, why are you staring at me so? I only came here and talked this much solely for the good of Nashaland."
Madam Quartley sighed in reply, "What for the sole good of Nashaland? Did you think I still wouldn't know that you're doing this for your own sake? That if Tremaine doesn't hold his presidential post, you wouldn't be the wife of the president's brother and still enjoy the treatment that you had in the past? What you're really worried about, is losing your place that is second to none to all others above."
Yuliana was stunned.
Madam Quartley continued, "Yuliana, you've been married to Zorion for many years now. The kind of thoughts you have, did you think that I'm not aware of them? I was only keeping my silence about it, didn't expect that it would make you think I was blind." Yuliana suddenly felt that she had never known Madam Quartley before.
By the time she married into the Quartley Palace, the matriarch was already quite old.
She had even once heard that Madam Quartley was shrewd, vigorous and resolute when she was young.
However, when she laid her eyes on the aforementioned woman, it turned out to be a muddle-headed old lady instead.
One listened for the wind, only for it to be rain; what she often said, was what was being said.
Yuliana became complacent then. So what if she was a shrewd person when she was young? When one was old, you'd still become a muddled old coot.
Now, however, she all of a sudden felt that she was wrong.
Actually, the true muddle-headed person was her.
"Yuliana, you had one too many little ideas. One should strive to be more honest as a person. I hope that you can get along with Rorita in the future. She is a good child, you'll need to learn from her." Madam Quartley added.
Yuliana forced herself to calm down.
"Grandma, I still don't know what you're talking about. I, Yuliana, had never carried any little ideas that you've mentioned. What I've done so far was for the sake of the Quartley Palace, and for Zorion's sake."
Madam Quartley shook her head for the nth time with another sigh, "Do you still think I don't know how much sincerity you hold towards Zorion?"
Madam Quartley gave a rueful laugh, "Speaking of which, that girl Ruth was pretty sincere to him."
The moment she heard Ruth's name, Yuliana became furious.
She couldn't help but retort, "Grandma, how could Ruth be sincere to Zorion!? She's totally using him. She's a lowly servant who wanted to rise from the mud she's in, hence she climbed into Zorion's bed How can you think that she was genuine towards him?! The only person in the world who treats Zorion whole-heartedly is me and me alone!"
Madam Quartley scrutinized her, "Yuliana, are you still under the assumption that I can't tell whether you're whole-hearted or not towards Zorion? It's just that Zorion is devoted to you, and you're also his legal wife. Based on these two points, it's of no use no matter how sincere that Ruth is to my
grandson."
"Therefore, I can only continue to pretend to be muddle-headed! The people in this large family aren't easy to manage. If I want to maintain harmony, sometimes I have to be muddle-headed!"
