Chapter 61: Severing Ties
Melissa's POV
Atrias Elliotson's face was now filled with a mixture of fear and shame. He knelt on the ground, remorsefully staring at me.
"I reject you once again! Alpha Atrias Elliotson, even though I know you are my desired mate, I will pray to the Moon Goddess, asking her to send you a new lover-ochest worthy of you, someone wise enough to recognize the right person"
At my such solemn vow, tears welled in his eyes. He pressed his hand to his chest, nodding helplessly.
I waited quietly for the sharp pain of rejecting fate, but it never came. This surprised me
I looked at my own body, then at Atrias Elliotson. The strange connection between s seemed to vanish.
I no longer felt any longing for him, his scent no longer attracted me. This meant our bond was gone, and we would no longer suffer because of each other.
I'm sorry, Melissa... It was my mistake. I shouldn't have overthought things. The opportunity was right in front of me, and I failed to cherish it. Losing a woman like you is my loss."
He smiled apologetically, rising to leave.
Suddenly, I was aware that-the Northern Castle was heavily guarded. How had he managed to sneak in without any guidance?
"I hope you find someone who truly loves you and is willing to give everything for you. Atrias. I also hope you resolve the deadlock with the North. Sebastian is a good man, and a great leader."
He didn't agree with my words and seemed to have some other opinions about Sebastian
"It's laughable that my former fate would lead me to reconcile with the man who stole my woman and abandon territorial disputes. Is he such a charismatic guy?"
I knew I sounded a bit foolish, thinking I could stop the conflict with just a few words.
"But, Melissa, if you'd said that earlier, I might have agreed, but now I no longer have love. possessiveness, or longing for you. I believe you feel the same way. Fate may have bound us together, but only love can drive me to do anything for you. That's why Elliott Kauffman can't forget you!
Atrias regained his initial composure. With politeness, he bowed to me, gently taking my hand and placing a soft kiss on it.
"Even without fate, I like you, Melissa. You're wise and clear-headed. My relationship with Sebastian isn't as simple as you might think. Our ties to the North have long been 80.4%

destined. Perhaps neither of us wanted to cause trouble for the other, but now, so many things have been done out of our control."
In his gaze, I saw sadness and disbelief. Even though Atrias tried to hide it, I still sened, sharp and clear.
"You will find someone worthy of you."
The message was clear enough. Since he wasn't willing to cease the war, there was little left for us to discuss.
With a gentleman's grace, he removed his coat and draped it over my shoulders, then kissed my forehead..
"I won't forget you, my love. I will seize every opportunity. If he hurts you or does something unforgivable to you, I will take you away from him at any moment."
As he spoke, Atrias gazed at me with deep affection, gently caressing my cheek.
"Whether you want to write me or call me, I will always be here. I promise you. I'm glad that, despite the heartache, I haven't caused you any worse experiences."
"Don't blame yourself too much. Many things aren't your fault."
He looked at me, and I could feel he still didn't want to part ways.
"Forget about Elliott Kauffman for a moment. If I had been in Sebastian's shoes, always interacting with you, I think I would have fallen for you too. Perhaps that night, I should have just taken you away with me."
We shared a smile, but he looked at me one last time before turning to leave, leaving me alon
in the garden.
When I returned to my room, I finally relaxed. I had been so fearful in his presence, knowing that this might be my last chance to be with my fated mate.
But for love, I let it go.
I silently prayed to the Moon Goddess, hoping that I hadn't made the wrong choice and that I wouldn't be hurt because of it.
I quickly took care of the coat, and from the maid, I learned that Sebastian had taken Martell to the council meeting to deal with the matter concerning Winnie.
I collapsed onto the bed, my mind replaying the events of earlier.
The areas of my body that Atrias touched were still burning. Another man had kissed me, caressed me. I had nearly been violated...
I felt guilty towards Sebastian, and my tears flowed down uncontrollably.
I immediately called Phoebe to my room. She rushed over as soon as she saw my tear-streaked face.

"Oh my God! What happened? You're giving off someone else's scent, Melissal What on earth happened? Were you attacked or or did something happen? She asked relentlessly, but I shook my head.
"My fate came looking for me, I replied, and my words almost made her shout in shock
"Oh my God! Are you joking with me? Melissa, do you know what you just said?" She cautiously lowered her voice, carefully sitting next to me.
"You didn't hear wrong." I whispered. "He asked me, and he nearly possessed me. I almost fell into his trap, into that feeling."
I trembled uncontrollably, my tears falling as Phoebe held me tightly.
"Melissa, you should know that this isn't good-neither for you nor for Sebastian." She took a deep breath, trying to make the situation seem less overwhelming
"I know... That's why I refused him right away! But I still feel terrible, because I know I'll hurt Sebastian."
The overwhelming sense of betrayal gnawed at me, making me feel sorry for him, and that's why I felt this torment.
"Are you okay, my dear? You've done things that even many Alphas can't, and I believe what you did doesn't compare to betraying him. You could completely pretend like nothing happened. It was just fate guiding you, it doesn't mean anything. Just go take a shower, wash his scent off your skin, forget it ever happened. If Sebastian doesn't bring it up, you have every right not to tell him. After all, what happened doesn't mean anything to him, so just forget about it." Phoebe's comforting words made me feel a little better, but I quickly shook my head.
"No, darling. This isn't something that can be easily hidden. After all, that guy's identity is far from ordinary." I thought for a moment before reluctantly telling her. "Who is it?"
"You should know him well... we've both met him before."
I knew what saying this would mean, but right now, I desperately needed support
"Atrias."
