Chapter 19 — Aftermath
Randy, Bryan, and I sat up almost all night long, contemplating what we could do about Ellis, but all we agreed on so far was pizza for a late-night snack. Then, out of the blue, Bryan jumps up and says, "Joy should get rid of him, use your magic to do something with him like wipe his memory of you or do something to scare him off. We tried the legal way, and they kicked him out, so now we have to do it your way." Randy sat in his chair at the table, looking confusedly from me to Bryan then back to me.
"Ok, Joy, what the hell is he talking about?" He asked with a little concern in his voice. I glance over at Bryan, giving him my "I'm not happy" look, which he took as "let me tell Joy's secret."
"Umm, well, it's like this, Randy, our dear friend here is a real-life magic-happens witch," He explained. Randy just sat there staring at Bryan like he had lost his mind. "Show him, please, Joy," Bryan begs me with his eyes as he glances over at
me.
I let out a loud sigh and say, "Fine." Then I start chanting my power chant quietly to myself. As I clasp my hands into a cup, an energy ball forms in my hands. I hear Randy gasp as it forms before his eyes. After that, I close my hands together, making it disappear. I look over at Randy, who didn't seem to freak out about what he had just seen.
"So, are you scared of me now?" I ask.
"No, I'm not scared of you. I always knew there was something special about you," Randy explains.
"I guess it's decided, then. I will be the one to deal with Ellis," I stated. "But I'm going to need you two to help me."
They both agreed that they would help when I came up with another plan to get Ellis. I stayed up all night trying to figure out what I could do with him. I didn't want him dead, and if I tortured him, it would be draining on me, so that was not an option. As I sat on my porch watching the sun come up the next morning, I knew what I had to do. I had to wait until everyone woke up because they had the most critical part to do if my idea was to work. Finally, feeling tired, I decided to take a nap while I waited for the others to waken. When I had awoken, I got up to see Bryan cooking and Randy watching television.
"Hey, sleepyhead, we were wondering if you were going to sleep all day," Randy joked.
"I was up until seven thinking, and you two were still sleeping, so I figured I would get a nap in," I admitted.
"So, did you figure out anything?" Bryan asked.
"I did actually, and you two are going to have the most critical part of the plan, if you're up for it."
"Sure, what do you need us to do?" Randy said, jumping in the conversation.
"I need you two to hack into the Federal Prison computer system and set it up where Ellis is a murderer serving life without parole."
Bryan and Randy looked at each other as if they were talking telepathically, then Bryan looked back at me and said, "We can do that, no problem, just tell us when you need it done." "Great. Thanks, guys, and I will," I say.
"I just need to find Ellis to get things rolling."
"Why do you need him?" Randy declared.
"Because how else am I going to magically send him to the prison if he isn't in my presence?" I revealed.
"Well, we know he will be back. He already said that," Bryan stated. Just then, Ron comes home for lunch, looking at us questioningly.
"Hey, don't stop talking because of me, you know Joy tells me everything anyway," He chuckles.
"We were just talking about how to send Ellis back to prison," I advised him.
"Can't you just magically send him into one of the prison cells?" He beamed happily. I loved having a husband that is a witch just like I am. We think so much alike.
"That's what my idea was," I laughed so hard tears came to my eyes.
Ron kissed me and says, "Well, great minds think alike." He then made himself some lunch and headed off to work, leaving us to deal with the details. But all we could do at the moment was sit back and wait until Ellis showed up. While we were waiting, Bryan and Randy hacked into the prison's computer system to see which cell we could put him into, then got his ID and everything ready to be sent into the system with one click of a button. We sat there waiting for hours, still Ellis was a no show. Until Ron got up the next morning and saw him sitting on our couch again. He came back into the bedroom.
"Joy, wake up," He whispered, pushing against my arm. "Your crazy ex-husband is sitting in our living room."
"Do what?" I ask, still half asleep. "How the hell is he getting past my security system?"
"That's a good question, but right now, we need to deal with him sitting on our couch," Ron said quietly.
"Umm, yeah," I said. "Can you hand me my cell phone, please? I need to wake up Bryan and dad." Ron reached on top of the dresser and grabbed my phone, then handed it to me as I got dressed. My first call was to Bryan, who wasn't thrilled to get woken up so early.
"What is it, Joy?" He growled.
"I'm sorry, I know you don't like getting woken up this early, but it's important. Ellis is in the living room," I explained.
"Don't bother calling Randy, he always puts his phone on silent. I'll sneak into his room and tell him," Bryan said before he hung up on me.
"Ok, now it's time for some good acting. Are you ready?" I ask Ron, who shakes his head, then we head into the living room.
"Ellis," I say, acting stunned. "What are you doing here?" I waved Ron on so he could get to work.
Ellis turned to me. "I live here, remember?" He acknowledged with a smirk across his face.
I looked at him and smiled, "Right." Then I walked into the kitchen to get Ellis and me a glass of orange juice, except I put a bit of sleeping potion in his. I walk over, then handed him the glass as I took a drink out of my own cup. It took Ellis a while before he fell asleep. He sat there fighting the sleep for what seemed like hours. When he finally went to sleep, I got Randy and Bryan to help dress him in the orange jumpsuit they had gotten.
"Are you two ready for this?" I asked them.
"Yes, we are," Randy answered.
I go and collect the things that I need for my spell: a black candle, parchment paper, and a black pen. I placed all my things on the coffee table in front of Ellis while Bryan and Randy stayed in the kitchen. I wrote Ellis's name into the candle with a needle. Next, I wrote the words: "I call the spirits to take this man back. Take him away. Remove him now. I don't want him to stay and send him to Florence Federal prison." I dropped a small amount of honey in the middle of the paper, then folded it. After that, I heated my athame up and made a gash through Ellis's name that I had carved in the candle. I picked up the folded paper and lit it with the candle, then I said, "As I will it, so shall it be."
After a few short seconds, Ellis disappeared into thin air.
"Ok, now hit the button to send his information into the system," I ordered.
"Wow, do you think it really worked?" Randy asked.
Bryan just says, "Trust me, it worked. Joy doesn't fail at doing magic."
A few days later, Bryan went to Florence, Colorado, to make sure the spell worked. When he saw Ellis face to face, he had Bryan relay a message to me.
"He said for me to tell you that he loves you and that he will be out soon," He relayed. All I could do was laugh because I knew he wouldn't get out due to overcrowding or by breaking out. My job getting justice for myself and for my children was finally over. Granted, most of it was done legally, even though I had to do a little magic to help it along. But it was well worth it.
