Chapter 258
Barclay was right. The family doctor did show up quickly. Just as Rose finished cooking pasta, before Moira could even sit down to eat, the doctor was already at the door. Hearing the doorbell, Rose dashed to answer it, afraid Moira might make a move. "Mrs. Covington, I'll get it, you stay put," she said, shutting off the stove before heading out. Moira hadn't planned on budging anyway.
Soon enough, Rose ushered the doctor in.
"Mrs. Covington, hi there, I'm Jacob Harrison," the man greeted Moira.
"Hi."
"Mr. Covington told me you banged up your left knee. Mind showing me the wound?"
Moira grimaced and hiked up her pant leg again.
The knee, which had been a nasty shade of bruise just moments ago, now looked even worse, darker and scarier.
Jacob slipped on gloves. "Mrs. Covington, mind straightening out your leg for me?"
Moira did as she was told.
After a thorough examination, he confirmed it wasn't a bone injury, just a soft tissue bruise. Hurt like hell, sure, but a bit of bruise spray would ease the pain in a day or two. Jacob grabbed some spray, no pills or anything.
Moira was experiencing house call service for the first time, and she had to admit that Juliet was right!
Money sure did buy convenience!
Barclay's sudden return from his business trip to spend Valentine's Day with Moira quickly became the talk of the circle of friends.
Some were delighted, others green with envy.
Naturally, word of this reached Alfie. Despite his previous reluctance to propose to Thalia, upon seeing the Instagram screenshot Albert sent him of Moira, he contacted Thalia the very next day and agreed to the engagement.
The Guzman family and the Weaver family wasted no time arranging a meeting, and news of Alfie and Thalia's engagement spread like wildfire.
Juliet brought up the matter to Moira. [You bet Thalia's gonna invite you to the engagement party!]
Moira shrugged. [Do I have to go if she invites me? Who does she think she is?]
Juliet chuckled. [True, but if you don't go, you know how people will gossip!]
[Fair point,] Moira conceded. [We'll see.]
If Thalia dared to invite her, Moira dared to go!
Just days after Valentine's Day came Felix's concert.
Moira felt
nervous. Despite her
her hands were fine,
she spent almost all her time it
piano room practicing.
Two days before the concert, Barclay returned from his trip.
His first order of business upon returning was to check on her knee. Sitting on the couch, watching Barclay bend down to inspect her knee. Moira felt her face flush with embarrassment. en FindNovel
The bruise on her knee hadn't completely faded, but it was definitely much better than the first day. At least now she could walk without any trouble. As long as she
didn't press on it, she didn't feel any
pain.
"It really doesn't hurt anymore," she said, just as his thumb pressed down unexpectedly.
Moira gasped, caught off guard.
Barclay looked up at her. "You said it didn't hurt anymore?"
Moira grimaced. "It doesn't hurt when it's not touched."
"So you're still in pain."
He withdrew his hand and lowered her pant leg.
There was a moment of awkward silence.
To ease the tension, Moira hesitated before saying, "Mr. Covington, are you hungry? Shall I cook you some pasta?"
Barclay shot her a glance, then glanced at her knee. "I'm not hungry."
Though he only said simple words, Moira could sense the unspoken message in his gaze.
'You're pushing it a bit far, Mr. Covington!' she wondered.
