Chapter 8: The Call
When she left her father's house, Hannah got back to the house, she was still downcast over the fact that she did not receive the dowry that she intended to receive. It was a good thing that she beat up Jessica, she had long wanted to do that to her, and do when the
opportunity presented itself, she didn't hesitate on jump on it.
However, as she made her way into the living room, Hannah reclined on the seat, her eyes sad, filled with a lot of emotion. She raked her hand through her hair and stared into space. She was lost in Thoughts for a moment when her mobile phone began to ring in her bag. She took it out and stared on the screen, her heart races as sweat covered her forehead. The only thing that she could do was pick up the call and put it in her ear. "Doctor"
"Hannah, I need to talk to you about your mother".
She shook her head uncertain what he wanted to say about her mother. Fear engulfed her, she was the woman who gave her life and she loved her dearly.
"What about her? Is anything wrong with her? Please tell me what it is" She was tensed, hearing about her mother puts her in a different mood. Everyone knows that already.
"I just wanted to tell you that your mother will have to stop her treatment if you don't pay the bills"
"I will get the money sir, please don't stop the treatment"
"You don't understand Hannah, it is not up to me, the hospital has decided to stop the treatment, this is not a charity organisation, i took the initiative to call you because I don't want another person doing this right now, since I am in charge of the patient, I think I should let you know" "I will get the money"
"Then get it otherwise you are the only one to blame if you lose your mother" With that he ended the call.
Hannah felt her heart Squeeze, if it wasn't for her people who tricked her, she would have to gotten some money to pay for the treatment. Her mother was in the hospital and bills were pilling up, she just doesn't know what to do as she did not have any money. Standing up, she paced around trying to figure out what next to do when her eyes fell on the jewelry that Shawn had given to her. She stride towards the jewelry and picked it up.
She stared at the beautiful necklace and wondered how much it was worth. However, this was a gift, a heirloom that was just gifted to her, she could not just be thinking of selling off for money. Nevertheless, her mothers life was at stake, she could not bear to lose her. How could she watch her die when she can sell this off and save her mother life? She had nothing to say, she was confused, Hannah was having never been so confused before in her life.
Two choices rested in her palms, both were important to her but she has to pick one. Which is it going to be? She thought.
However, she had to save her mother's life, she was her mother and somehow she knew she needed to live.
"I need to sell this" She placed a kiss on the jewelry and left the house. She walked to the jewelry shop and when she handed over the jewelry to the shop keeper, he was left nonplussed for a moment as he gawked at the jewelry. "Excuse me, I will be right back"
"Is there a problem?" She asked as if sensing the difference in his attitude.
"Not at all, you just hold on see, I will be right back, alright?"
She nodded her head and watch them the shop keeper as she walked into a other small room. She wondered what he was going to do but doesn't really pay much attention to him as what was on her mind was her poor mother. When the Shopkeeper hit into the small room, he took out his phone and called up
G.
"Hello Boss"
"What's going on?"
"There is a woman with that jewelry, you know the expensive one that is worth a lot"
"Are you sure about this?" The manner that his voice rose shows that he was surprised.
G was his boss and a good friend of Shawn, he had told him about his situation with his wife and so he was surprised that she was going to sell the very same jewellery that was gifted to her by Shawn.
"Yes Boss I am very sure about this, I can send you a picture if you want me to"
"That wont be necessary, hold on let me ask someone" G said. "She is at the store with the jewelry that you have to her, what should we do about it"
"She can do whatever it she wants to so it with, it no longer belongs to me, I have give to her as a gift" His voice echoed through the phone. "Are you sure about that?"
"Yes"
"You heard him right, you can buy the jewelry since she wants to sell it to us, offer her a high price for this"
When he returned back with the jewelry. "How much do you want to sell it?"
Hannah looks at the jewelry and quickly took back the heirloom. This wasn't right, it was a family heirloom and she should not sell it for anything
"I will offer more than you can ever imagine"
"Forget it" she ran away before he can get to say another word, her mind was already made up.
If she wanted to sell the heirloom, she was going to ask Shawn for his consent, she couldn't sell his heirloom without his consent. That was not right at all, and she doesn't feel like it. She was a woman of honour and principles, those two things wouldn't let her do something that was wrong no matter how eager she was to pay the bills and save her mother.
She was going to have to find another way to make this happen but this was not that way. She knew that she needed to get to the hospital even though that she doesn't have the money. Heartbroken that she couldn't save her mother, she ran to the hospital, so Many things ran through her mind but she just pushed it off, if Shawn gave his consent then perhaps she might be thinking about it but he doesn't know any of her plans and this heirloom was something that was passed down from generation to generation. She wasn't going to turn hers into a joke.
"Doctor" She caught the doctor as he was about to head for the stairs.
"Hannah" The doctor smiled at her. *Are you alright?"
"How is my mother doing?"
"Don't you know?" The Doctor arched up his brow
"Know what?" Confusions rested on her face"
"Your father has already paid foe the medical expenses" The doctor admitted leaving Hannah nonplussed, her eyes softened as the words echoed in her head.
