Chapter 834
She angled her wrist towards her face, flashed a bright smile, and snapped a selfie to upload on Facebook.
Over in Havenbrook, Molly quickly took a screenshot and excitedly messaged her best friend, "Mia, check out Facebook. Anya came back yesterday, and Leo's already headed to see her today!"
Mia, her hair all over the place, lounged in bed scrolling through her phone. "Good for Leo, finally making his move on Anya. That bracelet has to be from him. He even got Naomi a pair of earrings. She loves them so much she barely wears them." Both of them liked the post and commented at the same time: "That bracelet is stunning."
Hansen joined in on the fun and commented, "That bracelet is stunning."
Later, Hansen asked his daughters in the group chat, "Hey Mia, you two like Anya's bracelet? Dad'll get you each one!"
He tagged Anya, asking, "Sweetheart, where'd you get it? Grandpa wants to know."
Before long, Anya responded: "Chad gave it to me."
Leo, who was driving, got a call from Hansen.
Anya, sitting next to him, answered, "Hello, Grandpa, it's me~" Anya's voice chirped.
Hansen was confused, "Are you back home?"
"No, Chad came to see me."
Hansen felt a sense of satisfaction, thinking his grandson finally did something right. He asked Leo again where he was.
"They don't want the bracelet; they're just poking fun at me and Anya. How could you not see that at your age?"
Hansen, a bit ruffled, argued, "You noticed, sure, but now you're calling me old. I'll get a gift for my little grandson and leave you empty-handed." With the clever Leo around, Hansen found the usually stingy Henry quite charming.
After hanging up, the busy Hansen made a video call to his freshly-awakened little grandson.
Mia stayed at her parents' overnight. Early in the morning, Andre and Aaron headed off to work, with Andre holding his son's chubby little legs, deeply worried. Mia, knowing her husband's thoughts without asking, helped Henry stand by the sofa.
Henry, still sleepy, was made to practice standing early in the morning, his little hands pressed against the couch, whining and fussing, crying out, "Dada, boo-hoo~"
Mia replied, "You know crying to mom works better than to dad. This was his idea, you little lazybones. Others are already walking, and here you are, lagging behind the baby brigade." Hansen, watching the video, said, "My grandson? Grandpa's here, why the tears again?"
Henry turned to look at his grandpa on the phone, tears falling faster than pearls off a string.
Hansen showed off the beautiful scenery around him, "Jealous, huh?"
Henry cried even harder, while Madison covered her mouth, trying not to laugh. Hansen, playful as always, teased the little one about being jealous.
After realizing his daughters were just teasing about the bracelet, Hansen gave up the idea of buying them one.
But then...
At a tourist spot, Hansen picked up a bag made of woven strings, full of local charm. "This is nice, I'll get one for each of my three girls to use when shopping. It'll look great." Everyone knew Hansen's three girls: Naomi, Mia, Molly.
Grandma Aubree and Grandpa Elmer were there too. Grandma Aubree, holding a bag with a flower bigger than her palm, exclaimed, "My granddaughter will look absolutely stunning with this." Checkout!
Mia, at home, sent the video of her tearful son to her husband. Andre sighed, already feeling the parenting blues.
Anya only spent the first couple of hours with Leo, her focus solely on Chad. She called her mom in the morning, checked with the kitchen about lunch, and in the afternoon, while watching a movie, Leo noticed Anya, distractedly chatting on her phone with Mrs. Calder. Slightly annoyed, he wrapped an arm around Anya's neck, playfully tucking her head under his arm and snatching her phone away, threatening to post her chubby childhood photos on Facebook if she didn't pay attention to their date.
Anya looked up, teasing, "Chad~"
Leo didn't give the phone back.
After the movie, as they walked around, Anya glanced at maternity clothes that protect against radiation.
Leo finally sensed something was off and casually asked, "Is your mom pregnant?"
Anya, clutching her phone, looked at Leo, too nervous to speak.
Her dad had told her not to say anything yet, so how did Chad figure it out?
Her reaction confirmed Leo's suspicion. "Your mom's really pregnant?!"
Anya blinked innocently.
Leo, more assured, said, "Your mom's pregnant!"
Anya timidly nodded, "Surprised?"
Leo ran his fingers through his hair, shocked at the news about his future mother-in-law.
"My dad told me not to say anything too soon. Uncle and Aunt don't even know, and you know, my mom's older. Only we know, Chad, please keep it a secret."
Leo joked, "When your mom has the baby, and you take it out, people might think it's ours."
Anya blushed, "It's not mine."
It took Leo a few minutes to process the surprising news, "I should push my parents to have another baby."
Anya: "...Chad, you're definitely going to get in trouble for that."
"No worries, I'll stay away from home. They'd have to come find me to give me a piece of their mind." Leo finally understood who had been taking up his girlfriend's attention lately; it was her mom. As long as it wasn't another guy, he was okay with it.
Now in the loop, Leo went with Anya to buy some nutritional supplements. By the afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Calder were aware that Leo knew.
They both thought their daughter had let it slip.
Leo had to leave early in the afternoon because he had work the next day.
As Anya saw Leo off, she showered him with advice, "Chad, make sure to wash your sheets and pillowcases often, or you'll end up with mites."
Leo promised, and he also added, "Take care of your mom, but don't let your studies slip. Should I come to get you on the 26th?"
"No, let's make it the 28th."
Leo asked, "Aren't you eager to see Henry?"
Anya considered, "How about you come get me on the 27th, Chad?"
As Leo was leaving, he couldn't help but tease, "The chubby kid is even more charming than his brother."
Anya stood on tiptoe, quickly kissed Leo, "Not at all, Chad is the one who attracts me the most."
This time, their farewell wasn't filled with the usual reluctance. Leo watched Anya go back inside, then drove off while the sun was still high in the sky.
When Anya got home, the Calder family asked their daughter, "Did you tell Leo?"
Anya shook her head, "No, Chad figured it out on his own, and I didn't deny it."
