Chapter 953
"Hello, everyone. I'm Paige, but feel free to call me Paige," the girl introduced herself with a friendly smile. Lee chimed in, "Boss, since it's Paige's first day, how about we find her a mentor to help her settle in?"
Vincent, nodding as if he had already anticipated this, agreed, "Absolutely."
While everyone assumed Lee would be the mentor, Vincent surprised them by saying, "Actually, Leo is also new here. Paige, you can learn the ropes from him."
Leo, feigning seriousness, quipped, "I'm just an assistant. Now I've got to be a mentor too? Is Paige my grandkid or something?"
His deadpan delivery had the meeting room stifling laughter.
Vincent clarified with a smile, "It's about you young folks learning from each other."
After assigning a few more tasks, Vincent wrapped up the meeting.
While Leo could easily dodge personal requests, professionally, he had no excuse. He really needed this job. But the whole situation with Vincent bringing his daughter to the office left him uneasy about Vincent and Lee's intentions. After the meeting, Paige approached Leo at their desks, "Hello, we've met before, haven't we?"
"Oh, sorry, I don't recall," Leo replied nonchalantly.
Paige's face showed a flicker of embarrassment. "So, what should I do now?"
"You might want to ask your dad, or Sean can guide you," Leo suggested, turning back to his computer as he started working.
Unfazed, Paige went over to Lee, "Sean, what should I be doing today?"
Lee, taking extra care of the boss's daughter, caught Leo's attention.
Meanwhile, colleagues whispered among themselves, "Leo, do you think Vincent brought his daughter here to set you two up?"
Leo chuckled quietly, "You're reading too much into it. I'm just here to keep up appearances. The real goal is making sure the others get along. Notice how warmly Sean treats Miss Paige compared to us?"
They glanced over, and indeed, Lee was all smiles for Paige.
Leo continued, "Besides, setting up a married guy? That's not just unprofessional-it's a moral issue. Honestly, if Vincent were that kind of person, we might as well consider new job options. If the top brass is dodgy, the company's future doesn't look bright." Leo was well-liked for his humor and charm, often seen as the approachable big brother. He had a knack for seeing things clearly and was always ready to lend a hand. "You're married?" his coworkers asked, surprised. "We thought you took down your girlfriend's photo because you broke up."
"Marriage is just around the corner, and when it happens, you'll all be invited to celebrate. I took her picture down because I didn't want the bosses thinking I'm all about romance," he said with a laugh, returning to his desk.
Lee later went to Vincent's office to discuss whether Paige was fitting in.
Vincent hesitated, "Is it really suitable for Paige to be here?"
Lee was optimistic, seeing Paige's willingness as a positive sign.
Initially, rumors had it that Lee was Vincent's future son-in-law. Despite Lee's denials, Vincent's favorable treatment fueled the gossip, but Lee had to play along to secure his stake in the company. His plan was to have Paige intern and hopefully spark something with Leo, since Leo was considering leaving for a new job.
"Vincent, sometimes you have to take risks to gain rewards. Those in love may be clueless now, but they'll thank you once they're settled. Plus, a strong partnership could solidify Paige's status. In today's world, unknown beauties are often just kept hidden away by men like Vincent," Lee reasoned.
Vincent nodded, seeing the logic in Lee's words.
When Paige arrived at the office, everyone greeted her warmly, except Leo, who remained aloof.
When Paige asked Leo for his contact info, he said, "Miss Paige, we should keep things professional."
Paige, undeterred, smiled and replied, "No worries, I'm not looking to date you. It's just for work. Do you really not keep in touch with any female colleagues? Or do you have something against me?"
Leo was caught off guard and handed her his number.
Paige quickly saved it, relieved. She could've gotten his number other ways but preferred asking directly.
As Leo prepared to leave for the day,
the manager announced, "Let's take
a break from work tonight. It's my daughter's first day, and I'm inviting everyone out for dinner. No skipping out, his gaze landing on Leo
QUMS
On his way to the dinner, Leo called Anya, "Where are you?"
Anya replied, "Chad, I'm at your place. When are you getting off work?"
"I'll be late tonight. Start on your homework. There's food in the fridge, or order something if you want."
Anya, munching away, said, "Chad, I've already started snacking."
After the call, Vincent and Lee exchanged knowing glances. Lee asked, "Leo, you're just renting, right? Are you living with your girlfriend?" "Just occasionally," Leo replied.
Meanwhile, Anya, tired of her studies, found entertainment in a family group chat video.
It was a cute clip of Henry, trying to conquer the steps at home.
Bored of the baby gate's small slope, he took on the home's stairs, with Hansen and the housekeeper recording and ensuring his safety.
Exhausted, Henry cleverly rested at
the step's corner, looking up at the two men watching him. Then, he grabbed the railing, attempting to stand, causing the men to brace to catch him. Henry, seemingly pleased with his little plan, burst into giggles.
Anya's phone constantly warned her of low storage. Even after deleting apps and old photos, space was tight.
Eventually, she handed her phone to her boyfriend to free up some space.
Leo, seeing the screen filled with videos of his "little rival," joked, "I'm deleting all of these!"
"No, Chad, please, let me save a few before you do," Anya pleaded, diving into Leo's arms and focusing on the screen.
Out of hundreds, Anya reluctantly picked just three to keep, "Chad, go ahead and delete the rest."
Leo, exasperated, suggested, "Maybe it's time for a new phone."
At the restaurant, Leo was politely pushing away a drink. He didn't want to drink since he had to drive Anya home. So, he joked, "If I drink tonight, I won't be welcome at home. My wife will kick me out." "Leo, everyone's toasting. You're sticking with soft drinks? Aren't you disrespecting Vincent?"
The room went quiet, the lively atmosphere cooling after Lee's comment.
In the end, a glass of wine was poured for Leo, almost as if it was decided he would drink. Leo understood the dynamics at such gatherings. Finally, he raised his glass to Vincent, took a sip, and the mood lightened once more.
