Chapter 969
Anya snapped, "Your father had it coming!"
Not far behind, two sisters sat in a white sedan, watching the drama unfold at the door.
Molly leaned forward, resting on the steering wheel, "Mia, we've got ourselves a front-row seat to a show."
Mia opened a pack of their nephew's snacks, sharing them with her best friend while munching, "Have we been so caught up in work that we've ignored what's going on in our nephew's life? Who's that woman?"
Molly also snacked on their nephew's treats, munching away, "No clue, never seen her before. Let's keep watching a bit longer."
Henry sat on his mom's lap, looking down at his popsicle. Auntie had one, mom had one, and his little hands were empty.
On a whim, the sisters decided to visit Leo to catch up on their not-so-reliable friendship.
Molly drove, and just as they arrived, they stumbled upon the doorstep drama.
After watching the scene for five minutes and finishing their snacks, they decided to get out of the car for a closer look.
Spotting the lively duo plus the little one, Leo, though surprised, seemed to have anticipated this.
Anya ran towards them happily, "Auntie, Aunt."
"Don't mind us; keep going. We couldn't see well from the car, so we thought we'd get up close," Molly said, eyeing the unfamiliar woman.
Paige looked at them, noticing the woman holding the child, who was Andre's son. Could the woman be... Mrs. Cedillo?
Paige immediately pleaded with Mia, "Mrs. Cedillo, please, help my dad. He knows he messed up."
Mia hadn't realized her reputation had spread so far that she was already known as Mrs. Cedillo.
"Don't cry, you look pitiful. What's the deal with your dad?"
Anya hurried over, "Aunt, don't listen to her nonsense."
Paige claimed her father's innocence.
Anya anxiously recounted to her aunt and aunt-in-law how she almost got into trouble with Vincent and mentioned Chad's unfair treatment at work. "It's all because of her dad; now, no company dares to hire Chad." Meanwhile, Leo remained calm.
After hearing the story, Molly sighed, "I get it now."
Paige turned to apologize to Anya, "I'm sorry, that night my dad was drunk and accidentally offended Ms. Anya. I apologize on his behalf."
Jade suddenly interjected, "Shouldn't an apology come with kneeling to show you're sincere?"
Mia turned to her best friend, "Kneeling without kowtowing, is that even sincere?"
Anya was taken aback: What??
Paige looked at Anya, did she really have to kneel and kowtow?
Leo sat leisurely to the side, sending a message on his phone.
"Does it mean if I kneel and apologize, my dad won't have to go to jail?" Paige asked Anya with teary eyes.
Anya, a bit lost, hadn't expected anyone to kneel. She meekly stood by her aunt-in-law.
Molly, with her belly showing, said, "Can't you get it? Apologizing means acknowledging your dad's mistakes and saying sorry. It doesn't mean kneeling will earn my niece Anya's forgiveness.
And even if Anya forgives you, if your dad broke the law, he should seek forgiveness from the law, not from my niece. Do you see the logic here?"
Paige looked at Molly and asked, "And who are you?"
Molly proudly introduced herself, "The Cedillo family's eldest daughter, thank you."
Anya eagerly chimed in, "Auntie, I said my uncle is a police officer, and she arrogantly said her dad could make a call and have my uncle kicked out of the station."
"You dare to look down on my Chad?!" Jade's anger flared, pointing at Paige, "What's your name again?"
"She's called Paige," Anya replied quickly.
Molly stepped forward, facing the now-intimidated woman, "Who's backing your dad to be so bold, claiming he can dismiss the head of the economic investigation team with a call? Who do you think you are, looking down on my Chad? It's like a bald man with an
no
umbrella-utterly shameless. What's the company's name? What's your dad's name? Who's backing him? I'll have my husband check it out; I refuse to believe there's no way to deal with your dad."
Paige apologized, "Yes, I'm sorry, I didn't know it was the head of the economic investigations team, I didn't..."
"Even if it was a junior officer, what
right does your dad have, acting above the law, daring to meddle in police affairs? Let's see, I don't
believe we can't find out abonet
your
dad! Molly said and pulled out her phone to call Chad, "Hey, honey, I want to report a crime."
The term "honey" was something Chad hadn't heard in a while. In his office, he closed his file, his face softening, "Who's upset you?"
Paige, frightened, clutched at Molly, shaking her arm, "I'm sorry, Ms. Cedillo, I was wrong."
Anya moved to steady her aunt, stabilizing the pregnant woman while trying to shake off Paige's hand, angrily scolding, "Are you blind? Didn't you see my aunt
vel
pregnant, and you're still shaking her?"
IMS
Leo stepped in, kindly suggesting to Paige, "You should leave, or you won't just be worrying about your dad in jail, but you'll find yourself in the ICU."
Mia smiled warmly, "You've got three minutes. If you don't leave, I really will have to step in."
After speaking, Mia's expression immediately changed, "Leo, start the countdown."
Finally, Anya pushed Paige away, ensuring she didn't come any closer to the pregnant aunt.
Just then, Lee arrived in a hurry. He got out of the car, quickly caught Paige, and apologized to Leo and the others before dragging the troublesome woman back into the car. Only after the four of them entered the elevator did Anya relax, letting go of her protective stance around her aunt, "Auntie, Aunt, her family deserved what they got today." Jade finished her complaint and looked at her nephew, asking, "I heard you quit your job?"
Mia glanced at her friend, "When did this happen?"
Arriving at the rental.
The child was placed on the bed, and the sisters sat on Leo and Anya's chairs, while the young couple sat on the edge of the bed, each explaining. "What I'm curious about is, how did Paige recognize me through my son?" Mia pinpointed the crucial question.
Anya licked her lips, "Mmm, because I've visited Chad's workplace before."
"What? I've never been there, when did you go?"
Anya sweetly recounted the day the uncle appeared.
Mia had an epiphany, connecting dots she hadn't understood before, "No wonder."
"Two annoying spirits, how come they just showed up without any notice?" Leo leaned against the headboard, cradling his little brother in his arms.
