The McCain Marriage Contract

Chapter 26 — Raymond

Money was wonderful. It opened doors that were previously closed and unavailable to you. It afforded you the best services possible and give you entry to the best places. And what was more, you had the respect of the people that knew you had money.

I knew that Valerie was up to something. And I knew that even though we had a pact to take my dad down together that she was not exactly enthusiastic about the whole thing because she stood to gain something. She had accepted for us to reduce the rivalry between us but beyond that, we both knew we were still at loggerheads. We were smart individuals and it was a game of one playing the other until a winner emerged, and it looked like I was locking in on my victory. I had no plans to humiliate or make a mockery of Valerie, but I needed to find out what exactly she had with my dad. Using that as well as some of her deeds from the past I could easily blackmail her into demanding a divorce. If she incited the divorce and not me, I would not have gone against the marriage contract. It meant I still got to keep my inheritance as well as make my dad a laughingstock, for good measure. I was already meeting silently and secretly with some of his big clients and since I was doing a better job at handling their businesses for them they knew my face better. My dad was a good businessman but he was a better technologist. So while he was busy designing and studying apps and all of whatever it was he did with his computer, I was the one handling all his other businesses. Of course, he did not know of some of the accounts opened in my name nor was he aware that most of his projects were in my name because he left all of that for me to handle. I must have fooled him that I was still the loyal puppy he always had at his beck and call. All of that was about to end because, not only would I cash in on all of the funds he was not aware of, I would still keep my legitimate inheritance from him and at the same time get rid of Valerie for good. It was a triple win and I had all the gold in my corner.

After I noticed that Valerie was wearing threadbare clothes, something I had not paid much attention to before, I decided to follow her. I was always going to follow and track her movements but seeing that dress facilitated it. All I had to do was hire a private investigator and, of course, my money afforded me the best of the best. He followed her very discreetly and after meticulously doing so for quite a while he discovered that there was one place she visited most: Chaim Memorial Stroke Center. I found out it was a health facility built for the management and correction of severe forms of stroke. It was built by a certain Dr. Jacob Good in memory and honor of his father, Professor Chaim Good, who died from severe stroke complications. This was great information but there was only so much a private investigator could do. Since he was not listed as a family member he could not go into the facility and find out exactly what Valerie went there for. I remembered that when we were growing up, among the numerous goals she had, Valerie wanted to be a nurse. I wondered whether she somehow got to fulfill that dream of hers and if perhaps she had a job at that facility. But I was only assuming; I needed to know things for a fact and I knew I had to go harder. So I had the private investigator go back there and heavily pay one of the janitors to follow Valerie. Like the nurses at the facility the janitors also wore Scrubs although of a different color. And so it was this janitor that helped us get the final bit of information: Valerie was going to visit a patient there.

That evening after I got this information I decided to ask her about it when she returned. First of all, I made sweet, intense love to her to loosen her tongue a little and make it easier for her to talk for me. After we fucked I casually asked where she went to, and she simply said she stepped out to visit some friends. When she asked for an extra round I obliged her. In total, we went four rounds that evening that left her breathless and very satisfied while it left me neck-deep in more questions. I needed to know more before I went through with my next plan of action.

I knew she was going to visit my dad for some reason the next morning and so I took that morning off work. I had to go to that facility and see things for myself.

When I got to the reception I gracefully allowed my reputation to do the introduction for me. I didn't need to open my mouth before the staff at the front desk asked in wonder, "Mr. Raymond McCain?"

I smiled modestly. "Am I that obvious?"

"A goldfish has no hiding place," she said with a wide smile. "My son idolizes you and your father, Mr. Tony McCain. He's big on computers and stuff like that."

"Oh, dear, I'm so honored. I'm in a bit of a hurry but I wanted to drop in and see my father-in-law. I've been out of town for almost two months and I haven't been to see him all this while. It's a surprise visit," I explained with the calmest lying voice possible.

The look on her face showed that she was confused so I brought out my phone and showed pictures of Valerie and I, as well as the news headlines concerning our marriage. I watched her mouth open wide and she closed them against. "Sorry, I didn't know," she said apologetically.

"Not your fault, ma'am. My wife and I try to keep our marriage very quiet so as not to attract much attention to our private lives. Could you please point me in the direction of his ward?" I asked.

She did more than point; she took me to the ward herself. And lying on the bed looking thinner and older than I remembered was Jimmy Jensen or J. J. like my dad used to call him. I felt my heart break instantly. "Just the man I've been wanting to see. Hello, Raymond," J. J. said.
