Chapter 149 MIRO

The first thing I heard was the steady beep of a heart monitor, then I opened my eyes and saw the white ceiling. I winced as the sunlight from the window entered my eyes and I had to raise an arm to shield my face.

Just as my brain booted up with memories of what transpired yesterday and hoy I got here, I heard whispers and automatically assumed it was Ryn.

Turning my neck to the side, I expected to find Ryn at Theon's side. Instead, to my greatest annoyance, I found Chelsea blowing the aphrodisiac in Theon's sleeping face.

"For Goddess sake! Can't you just give him a goddamn break?!" I snapped as I forced myself to a sitting position. Chelsea threw a glare my way. "Are you so hopeless, and so pathetic that you'd have to rely on stupid elements to make them love you? Like seriously, don't "Why should I when I'm doing what I have been tasked to do?" Chelsea gave a non-chalant shrug, then her eyes narrowed into slits as she glared atate. "You're lucky I didn't use it on you while you're sleeping, considering what you did behind my back! It would have been fun making you bark like a dog for my entertainment."

I sneered in disgust even though her words struck a chord.

She was right.

She could have easily poisoned me, which begs the question - where the fuck is Ryn?

I scanned the room, finding it empty of her and her bag. "Where's Ryn?"

"Don't know. Don't care." Chelsea mumbled, before smiling and cooing at Theon as he blinked his eyes open.

"Hey, miss me?"

I held my breath as Theon stared at her for a moment.

Then he smiled, "Hey, beautiful."

I rolled my eyes in frustration.

Just then, a knock on the door drew me out of my thoughts and I looked sharply to the entrance. When I saw Sadie, my heart soared, and the moment she entered, I expected a certain someone to follow behind her as well. Instead, it was Sadie's parents and I was sorely disappointed.

When Sadie saw Chelsea, she stopped midway and frowned. Then she looked my way, and I had to plant a smile for her even though I was terribly upset.

Chelsea saw her and her glare turned murderous. The two young women continued to exehange dagger glares and just when I thought Sadie would come to me, she went straight for her favorite cousin.

"Hiiii!" Sadie waved and I had to mindlink her to be careful. But before she could reach him, Chelsea stood up and blocked her way.

"You didn't think I forgot what you did to me now, did you?" She sneered. "I know he's your favourite and your access to him

has been revoked."

"Chelsea." Theon called.

"Yes, Darling?"

""Let her through."

"No."

A strange silence settled on us all as Sadie's parents shared a startled glance and my cousin turned to me, seemingly on the verge of tears.

I hated that I couldn't do anything about the situation so I opened my arms for her instead. She stared at my arms and then my face before rushing towards me..

When she entered my embrace with force, she planted a kiss on my cheek. "I have a call to make." She said and we pulled apart. Looking into her face, I saw the same quiet anger all Windermeres have. "I'll be right back." I held her wrist, stopping her. "Where's Ryn?"

Her brows furrowed, "I was able to reach her. She took a walk in the woods. She'll come soon." Sadie said, emphasizing the last part to Chelsea, as if it were a threat.

Chelsea simply smiled and I frowned in thought.

Why was Ryn taking a walk in the woods? Maybe she just needed to clear her head?

Afterwards, Sadie left the room and I exchanged pleasantries with the Cresswells but really didn't interact with aunt Lydia because of what she did to Ryn.

Shortly after, Sadie sauntered in, beaming with a smile. Again, I craned my neck, expecting Ryn to follow but no one did.

Fuck. I could feel my wolf begin to get restless. Where was she? And why do I feel like I won't be okay until I see her. Sadie sauntered towards Chelsea and shoved her phone in her face. "The King would like to have a word with you." Chelsea frowned, snatching the phone from her hand before placing it to her ears.

I primed my ears to listen in despite being in conversation with the Cresswells.

"Your job is to keep Ryn away from my son, not Sadie. So let her have access to her cousin now."

"But-"

"No, buts! I don't want Theon having another mental breakdown

"Fine, your Majesty."

The call ended, and Chelsea reluctantly stepped aside as she handed back the phone. Sadie snatched it out of her hand and shortly after, she assaulted Theon with a bone crushing hug that made him go 'oof!"

As time went on, and more people came in and out to visit and drop flowers and food, Iwaited for one of them to be Ryn. But by the time, Healer Kwan gave us the go ahead to go home, and Ryn still didn't show, I became anxious. When Sadie came in from her bathroom break, I asked for Ryn again and she frowned in thought as if realizing Ryn should -have been here already.

"Let me call her." Sadie said.

When I listened in and heard Ryn's voice, I sighed in relief but my wolf didn't settle down. Instead, he got more antsy and that's when I realized she didn't sound right.

She sounded off.

Soon it was time to leave the hospital and the Cresswells decided they would check in later but Sadie insisted on following us with her car.

As soon as I entered my own car, Chelsea entered next from the other side, putting a wedge between me and Theon.

Considering the influence he's under, I didn't want to put him in pain, thinking about Ryn. So I sent a text to her instead.

"Hey, I hope you're good? Just checking in." I paused, wondering what else to say. "I didn't see you when I woke up. I hope you're alright? I look forward to seeing you." Then I sent the text wondering if I was being awkward.

Knowing I can't do anything about it, I sighed and looked out the window, intentionally tuning out Chelsea who wouldn't shut up next to me. Thankfully, Theon was quiet and not as chattty. After we arrived, settled in the living room, and assured Sadie that we were fine, I watched her go to the balcony and dial someone's number as she paced around.

It seemed the person didn't pick, because she tried it again. After the fifth try, Sadie came in with a worried ex before she could get to us, I mindlinked her. "What's up?"

"Ryn's not picking my calls."

*, but

Not wanting Theon to be privy to this information yet, I rose from the couch and motioned to the kitchen so we could talk there and have more privacy.

"Ever since she went to the woods, she's been acting funny." Sadie complained and my brows pulled together.

"How?"

"Just agitated and...off."

"Do you have any idea why?"

Sadie shook her head. "She just said, 'the craziest thing happened' and I was just so bothered about her being in the woods alone that I

cautioned her like a parent and net

never got to find out. I was hoping

we'd talk about it when she arrives."

Something's not right.

I excused myself from the kitchen and retrieved my work tablet from my room, before coming back. Then I hacked into the cameras at the hospital and Sadie came to my side to watch

Although Sadie and I couldn't see inside the ward, I saw Ryn go in and then the cameras went static a few hours later. I rewinded and watched it again. Kyn had gone immediately, the transfusion started, and had waited till dawn, then the cameras went crazy again. "What's going on? What happened?" Sadie asked, her brows furrowed as she stared at the static screen.

"Someone tampered with the cameras, cousin and I think it's because of Ryn."
