Why deceive me??

Chapter 14. The scene

Ronnie rushes to Daniel's office without knocking, her heart doing flip-flops. She opened the door and wished she didn't.

Daniel was hugging a lady and they seemed affectionate with each other.

"Umm...sorry. I can come back later." She said and made to shut the door.

"Don't. Come in." Daniel let out.

Ronnie couldn't comprehend what she was feeling but felt like a stone was being positioned on her heart. She quietly came in and took her seat. She pretended to be unfazed by their present position. "Daniel, I think I'll come back tomorrow, you seem to be having a guest." The blonde-haired woman mumbled.

"Ok, dear," Daniel affirmed.

Ronnie rolled her eyes at the term 'dear'. She was internally irritated but didn't demonstrate it.

"Please eat your food. This would be the final time I'd be coming here to give you food." She said and Ronnie sighed. She even brings food for him. Such a flirt.

"Don't concern yourself, is, I'll make sure to finish every single thing in that flask of yours." He answered back and the realization hit her. The blondie was his sister. The doctor Sara was talking about was Daniel. This girl was his sister. She felt like punching herself but maintained her stance.

"I've got to go join Sara, although her driver must have come to pick her up. She came from Damon's place and she seemed unhappy so she came straight here instead of going home. I had to convince her to go home."

Ronnie then put everything together though. But the name Damon seemed unimportant to her.

The blondie evacuated the office after giving Daniel a peck on the cheeks.

Daniel smiled at Ronnie but she didn't return it.

"What's up with my mother?" Ronnie instantly demanded.

"You want to know so badly?" He inquired.

"Why would I send her to a hospital if I don't mind about her?" She asked sternly.

"Ronnie, there's nothing wrong with your mother," he said and Ronnie pointed out that this was the first time he was calling her by her name.

"Then why did you call me down to your office." She demanded.

"Oh, that. It was just that you haven't gone back to your mother's ward since you fled. Not like your mum minds but I wanted to know if something is wrong." He began. "Nothing is wrong doctor. And I never fled. I just needed some fresh air." She said.

"Yeah, right, fresh air." He said sarcastically.

"Yeah, doc." She replied

"Can you quit calling me that? Just call me Daniel" he said slightly irritated.

"Why would I do that, you are a doctor." She said as a matter of factly.

"Well, I know that I'm a doctor but I don't want you calling me that. And besides, we're going out on a date soon so why the formality." He said and smirked.

The blush on Ronnie's face was apparent this time and she just looked somewhere else.

"Who says we're going on a date?" She asked

"Me, and didn't you listen when your mum said all those things and provided me your number?" He said

"And so, her doing all that doesn't mean we should go on a date. We could choose to ignore that and go on our way forgetting all of these ever happened" she said, shrugging her shoulders, but she knew she wanted him not to forget about her.

"Well, you can choose to forget it, but I ain't gonna do such. I would be a fool to forfeit a pretty woman." He said and she smiled without knowing it.

"I'm not pretty. Maybe I think..." She started up.

"Yeah, maybe I think I should paraphrase my terms. You're strikingly beautiful." He said with no intentions of flattering her.

"You're flattering no one" Ronnie rolled her eyes.

"I wish I could accomplish that though" he didn't notice but his words sent a chill between her loins. She had to press her legs together so as not to earn him a wrong impression about her. "Well what are you saying then?" she asked

"I say we go on a date." He replied.

"You're kidding," she asked

"Why would I do that" he defended and shrugged his shoulders.

"How do you aim at going on a date," She asked doubtfully.

"What do you mean?" she asked confused.

"You're always in the hospital" she shrugged.

"Nah, I'm a special doctor and I come when I wish. I'm only here because there's a flower I need to see and she's pretty." he smiled at her

"What flower," she asked astounded and with a growing delight building up.

"The prettiest flower I'd ever seen" he licks his lips which she found tempting and inviting. She had to hold back the moan that was threatening to escape from her lips. He was so damn chewable. "You're jesting" she joked.

"Let's go on a date" he proposed.

"On one condition," she said.

"Which is?" He said raising a brow.

"We're going on a friendly date" she tilted he'd head to see his expression.

"Ok, no problem, as long as I'm with my flower." He said cockily.

"You're good with words aren't you?" she winked.

"I think I'm more of a love message buddy" He shrugged.

"That's nice. So a friendly date it is then?" She asked.

"A friendly date." He affirmed.

"Then we're good," she said and he smiled at her.

"So tell me just now you weren't jealous at what you saw," He said, suddenly changing the topic.

"Why would I be," Ronnie said in an obviously embarrassed tone.

"You know, I thought I saw a glimpse of jealousy in your eyes." He said, looking straight at her.

Ronnie smiled at him and made no intention of allowing him to know she was jealous of the spectacle. They were going on that friendly date so there was no need to in him a hint I how she felt about him.

Katie types frantically at her computer the next morning. She was accepting the contract in Europe and was planning to leave the next week when Zara knocks on the door. Katie tells her to come in which she did. She stopped what she was doing and turned towards Zara with her eyes flaring like a zombie.

"Why the hell are you making life difficult for me." She yelled at her.

"Sorry. Didn't know you were so busy." She said bowing her head down.

Katie sighed and looked down at Zara. They never seem to be a day she and Zara talked like mistress and maid. Katie always bullies her. But today, she wasn't in the mood for that.

She just glared at Zara hatefully. "What do you want this morning?"

"The Madam asked me to call you for breakfast. The duo is not waiting for you on the breakfast table."Zara said

"Ok, tell them I'd join them in a moment." She said.

Zara nodded and left the room. Katie stood up from the chair and stretched herself. She got up and walked to her closet looking for a suitable morning free to wear. She settles for a satin short gown and started down the stairs. She saw both her parents seated at the dining table. It was odd for her dad to be seated at the breakfast table. He was always off to work before she could wake up from her sleep. She guessed her mother had gotten the best of him his morning as he doesn't seem at ease. Always checking his watch every now and then.

"Morning mum, morning dad," she said while sitting down.

"Morning love, how was your night?" Mrs. Philips asked smiling affectionately.

"I'm fine." Katie shrugged. She wasn't used to the admiration.

"Heard your date with Damon went wrong dear. What happened?" Mr. Philips asked, concerned.

"Dad, long news. I presume we should forget about it though." Katie said, munching on her sandwich.

The breakfast table became quiet as no one spoke again.

"Well, I think I have to go now. I'm having a conference meeting today and wouldn't wanna be late." Mr. Philips said, standing up from the chair.

"Dad, you haven't even eaten up to half of your food." Katie said, eyeing the barely touched food.

"Don't worry, your mama here," He said tapping Mrs. Philips on the shoulder. "Has prepared a nice dish on my flask and that's what I'd have for lunch."

"Make sure you finish every single grain of rice on that flask."Mrs. Philips said, staring menacingly at him.

"I will." He said and kissed her cheeks "I'll be back early for supper today." He said and walked briskly out of the door.

Katie looked at her watch and it was already 8:30. She gasped.

"What is it, honey?" Mrs. Philips asked.

"I'm having a guest today," Katie said plainly and walked out of the breakfast room.

Mrs. Philips, who nodded understanding everything, could only sigh as Katie also, didn't finish her food but left it halfway.
