Chapter 25. Getting married
The next morning, Ronnie felt thirsty but could t open her eyes. "Water," She moaned. "Water,"
She felt a presence leave the room and she waited. A few seconds later, a glass of water was placed on her lips. She gulped it down her system and sighed in satisfaction.
"Thank you," She muttered, still with her eyes closed.
She could feel a cold towel on her forehead. She opened her eyes and saw Damon's piercing gaze on her. She immediately made to stand up.
"Hey, don't you dare," Damon said and looked at her steadily.
Ronnie lay on the bed and closed her eyes back again, not wanting to see his face at the moment.
Damon was fighting an internal battle within himself. If I hadn't gotten angry from the office if I hadn't come home, if I hadn't gone to the garden to cool myself off, if I hadn't scared her. All this wouldn't have happened. He felt like slapping his face.
"What were you looking for in the garden," He asked her
She pretended not to hear him and kept her eyes closed.
He cleared his throath and asked again.
"I asked what you were doing in the garden. It's not as if I'm reprimanding you from going to the garden. But going that far alone Is dangerous," He said, softly. He was shocked at how change of voice.
"I am not that weak. I'm a wolf too," She opened her eyes and defended herself.
"I'm not saying you're weak, but being there alone isn't good for a lady of your class" he tried to reason with her.
Ronnie tried hard not to look at him.
"The wolf in the garden, was it... perhaps, you?" She asked, looking at him this time.
Damon felt a lump in his throat. "Did I scare you?"
Ronnie looked at him and smiled. "Yeah, you did scare me,"
Damon looked at her for a moment and nodded. "What do you want to eat," He again
"Oh, umm...anything that a sick person would eat," She said and smiled
"Katie," Damon called.
"Yes?" She answered, doubt evident in her voice.
"Don't make a single move out of that bed," He said and waited for her response.
"I won't," She assured him.
He opened the door and stepped out.
Ronnie didn't understands why he was acting so gently toward her. She also didn't know why she was not being rude to him.
Was it because he saved her or something more than that?
She shook her head and settled for the fact that she was starting to love Daniel so soon as can't love Damon too. It wasn't possible for her to love s two people at a time. Maybe she was just being grateful for him saving her. Yes, that was the reason for all the things she was feeling. Appreciation.
Her thoughts were disturbed by the dining of her cell phone. She looked at the caller ID and saw it was Daniel. She didn't feel the urge to waste time in picking up so she picked up immediately.
"Hi," She said, smiling sheepishly.
"Hey, how are you?" Daniel asked, letting his voice drown the rest of her senses.
"For starters, I'm good. Why haven't you called me?" She demanded, pouting her lips
"I'm so sorry, I've been so busy lately," He apologized.
Damon walked briskly to the kitchen. The maids rushed to him.
"Sir, what do you want to eat?"
"Sir, anything you want?"
He waved a hand at them to go away and went straight to the refrigerator and took out some ingredients.
He dug through everything and started cooking, to all the maids surprise. They've never see him cook for himself, let alone someone. They left their mouth wide agape.
Oblivious to their stares, he continued his work. When he was done, he arranged the food on a tray and started going out.
"Clean up this mess," He said coldly and left to the piercing eyes of the maids.
He reached forward to open the door and heard Ronnie giggling.
"What do you mean," She asked laughing.
"A date?" She said again.
"No problem, Friday night then," She smiled wildly this time around.
"Ok, bye," She said, hung up the call and placed the phone on the table.
Damon felt the urge to spill the food he made. How dare she agrees to go on a date with someone else when she is supposed to get married to him? He felt anger pricking in his heart.
He didn't love her but how can she want to go on a date with someone who isn't her husband. He frowned deeply and opened the door. He could still see the smile spreading across her face.
He placed the food on the table and sat beside her, staring at her, trying to figure out any a hint from her expression that would give away what she had for the person she was conversing with. When he didn't find anything, he decided to ask her
"I heard your voice while on my way here," He began
"Yeah," She replied
"Who were you talking to?" He asked
Ronnie faced flushed and Damon knew, she was in love with someone else.
He felt a pang of jealousy but didnt show it and disagreed with the fact that he os beginning to have an affection. He knew it was too soon to be jealous but why would she love someone else?
"Yeah, a friend of mine," She said and deviated her stare from him.
"And you agreed to go on a date with him?" He asked
"Yeah, just a friendly date on Friday night." She replied, trying hard to hide the flush on her face without success.
"Were you eavesdropping on my conversation? How rude," She asked, shocked.
"And why would I do that? I don't find your personal life interesting anyway. And always learn to keep your voice down when on the phone," He said and she felt angry.
"Yeah, like yours is better anyway." She said and puffed.
"Well, I don't care," He began. "I think you're gonna be busy on Friday," He said.
"And what would that be?" She asked, curiosity winning over her.
"Were getting married," He funky announced.
"What?" She asked, her eyes shooting out.
