Chapter 13
Katherine's POV
"Do you have any plans for today?" Xavier's husky voice sounded over the receiver. We hadn't spoken for a while because I was busy with the pack and memorial service. "I do," I answered.
"Why does it sound like you are not very... uhm... excited about your plans?" Xavier asked.
"Because it involves my aunt..." I answered, rolling my eyes annoyed.
I couldn't directly say no to her... I still had the obligation to act the part of someone with amnesia... someone who would trust blindly...
"That sounds interesting..." he chuckled.
"Sure," I answered, pulling my lips in a sneer.
Xavier's laughter boomed over the receiver, he was enjoying my discomfort.
"So what time is this date of yours?" He asked, getting serious again.
"Lunch time..." I answered, checked the time and got out of my bed, and headed to my closet.
"Do you know where you are going?" He asked and I sighed.
"Nope," I answered a bit annoyed, browsing through my clothes, "she said it is some fancy place..."
"And you believe her?" he asked, annoyed.
"Nope!" I said, and stopped, "I don't. That is the main reason why I called..."
"Oh..." he answered, "should I send someone to follow you?" He asked, getting excited.
"I didn't think that would be a good idea..." I answered and pulled the yellow summer dress from my closet, "She might sense something..." I sighed, "I have a feeling that she is on to me, and... well... I don't want to be exposed yet..."
Xavier became quiet on the other side, and for a second I thought he cut the call.Visit Job ni b.com to read the complete chapters for free. He cut the call and I stared at the phone in my hand.
Yet, a feeling crept up my spine that Xavier would find a way to keep an eye on me... without someone spotting them.
I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding and focused on the task at hand, getting dressed and ready for the lunch date with my wicked aunt.
Seconds after the last stroke of blush hit my cheeks, the knock on the door gestured that she was ready to leave.
"Kate," Rose's irritating voice calling from behind the loose door, "are you ready..?"
"Coming," I answered, more cheerfully than I felt, and headed toward the door.
"You look pretty," she commented and smiled when she saw me opening my bedroom door, yet the smile never reached her cold, hard eyes.
"Thank you," I answered and followed her towards the foyer.
She came to a stop, picked up some keys, and gestured for me to follow her.
I was surprised to see that she decided to take the SUV, instead of the convertible.
The drive was a bit longer than I expected, and I became worried when she took a turn off towards the human town.
An hour passed before Rose brought the SUV to a stop in front of a hotel I had never been to before.
"Where are we?" I asked, looking at the massive building.
"The Royal Hotel," she answered and got out, handed the SUV's keys to the valet, and gestured for me to come, "the hotel was recently built and it houses one of the best restaurants and spas..." she said as she pushed through the double door. A cold feeling ran down my spine as soon as I set foot inside the building...
Something was wrong, and I couldn't put my finger on it...
The whole reception area, including the floors, was made out of white marble.
"Ms. Rose!" A young man with dark brown hair and yellow-colored eyes called and came running towards her.
"Michael!" She answered with a smile, "Is my table ready?"
"Yes, mam!" He answered, "Where is the beautiful Ms. Erika today?"
I internally rolled my eyes, yet I kept a straight face.
"She wasn't feeling too well," Rose answered, looking concerned.
"I am sorry to hear that," Michael replied.
"Please tell Ms. Erika to get well soon..."
Rose nodded her head, and Michael turned on his heels and gestured for us to follow him.
"This way... follow me please!"
Rose nodded her head at this Michael character and she gestured for me to follow.
"Do you come here often?" I asked as we walked down the hall.
Gorgeous paintings of ocean views covered the walls, and here and there abstract paintings hung as well.
"Yes," she answered, yet she didn't turn to look at me.
Michael came to a stop at double doors, and opened them for us to enter, then headed to a secluded area.
He showed us to our table, waited for us to sit, and handed us menus.
"Is there anything I can get your ladies to drink?" Michael asked.
"Yes," Rose said and turned to Michael, "bring us some of your famous champagne..."
Michael nodded and turned toward me.
"She will have a glass too," Rose told him before I could say anything.
With that, Michael disappeared into the restaurant.
Rose started to chat away, acting warm and caring toward me. I answered every question she threw at me with the same consideration and warmth.
Michael appeared with our drinks and we ordered our food.
When our meals arrived, two men entered and took a seat in the bar area. I didn't pay much attention to the two men, except that I knew they were wolves. I was more focused on the food I ordered. What was Rose planning?
Why was she acting so kindly?
After we had our food, which was some of the best food money could buy, the same two guys that were sitting at the bar got up and came to our table.
"Excuse me for intruding, ladies," the man interrupted us, and I lifted my gaze, trying not to be rude, "are you, Katherine King?"
"Yes, yes I am," I answered.
The wolf's dark brown hair was neatly combed to the side, and he wore an expensive suit, yet it was his dark eyes that made me shiver, feeling cold...
"This is Nathan Murphy," Rose introduced us and got up, extending her hand to him to take, "he is the Alpha of Black Waters Pack...and the owner of this fabulous hotel..."
Nathan smiled, and shook her hand, "And this is Alpha Leo Smith, from the Red Crescent Pack. He is a defense attorney in his spare time..."
Nathan let go of Rose's hand and Leo extended his hand to Rose.
"Nice to meet you all," I said, giving them a shy smile.
I have heard stories of the rival packs next to us, but I never met the Alphas... All I remember was that my father wasn't too fond of Alpha Leo, but he never told me the reason why. "You need to excuse my niece," Rose said as she saw me keeping quiet, "she has amnesia and is a bit shy..."
"We heard," Leo said, and dropped his gaze at me.
I shivered in my seat, as the blond attorney's cold blue eyes moved lustfully over my body.
"Would you two men care to join us..?" Rose asked sweetly, gesturing for them to sit.
Nathan turned toward Leo, and without a word, they nodded their heads.
"We would love to..." he answered.
The two men took a seat at either side of the table, and Nathan lifted his hand into the air and gestured to the waiter to come closer.
Rose took charge and started with a bunch of questions.
Michael walked closer to our table and took the two men's drink order and Leo ordered a round for us and held out a $100 note and nodded his head toward Michael.
Michael didn't hesitate and took the money, leaving seconds after.
"Business is great," Nathan continued, "Has Bata John taken over as CEO?"
"Not yet," Rose answered, "the board will decide this week..."
That was interesting...
"So he is still acting as CEO..." Leo asked.
"That's correct..." Rose answered.
"Have the pack decided on a new Alpha?"
Michael returned with our drinks, and the table quieted down.
"Thanks," I said as he handed me a drink.
As soon as he left, Rose answered and I took a sip of my drink... and the alcohol hit me straight on...
Bloody hell, what was in this drink? Werewolves can consume a lot of alcohol before getting close to tipsy.
My sight became blurry and my temperature raised and my heart started to race... something was wrong...
I lifted my head, seeing the other three wolves, chatting along, without sounding intoxicated... there was no way that any of the three wolves were capable of drugging me at the table... Rose's phone rang, and she took it out to see who it was, then lifted her index finger in the air, gesturing to us she needed to take the call with an apologetic gaze. She got up and left the table. Leo turned to me, and smiled, seeing my drink was halfway.
"Drink up, girlie," he said, "it's still early and I am about to order the second round."
I just smiled at him, pushed my chair backward, and got up.
"Excuse me, gents," I said, trying to hide my intoxicating slur, "I need to powder my nose!"
"No problem, sugar," Nathan said, and got up for me to pass.
I slowly moved passed Nathan, trying hard to act as normal as I could...
I was afraid that should any of the two men pick up that I was drugged, they might take advantage of me...
As soon as I stepped out of sight, I quickly rushed into the restaurant ladies' restroom, found a cubical, and locked the door...
"F*ck!" I swore, feeling the drug taking its toll on my body... if I didn't act now I might not have seen another day...
I pulled my phone from my pocket and dialed the only number I knew by heart and by the second ring the familiar voice answered and I blacked out...
