Chapter 14
Xavier's
POV
"Get Greyson to my office!" I roared, "Get hold of him now!"
My secretary ran out of my office, her eyes big out of fright. She had never seen me like this before.
My anger and frustration had pushed through my dominant aura, sucking up all the air in the office.
It was Ray's fault. He was on edge the whole morning, worried about something which I couldn't figure out what... the smallest thing would tick him off, and he would take control of my body and snap at whoever was close by... At one stage, I had to block him off and put him on a time-out. He was delaying my meetings and screwing up my focus.
I was hoping by blocking him off he would calm down... yet, it had the exact opposite effect. The process only fueled his worry even more... he was now pacing up and down my mind behind the block...
Something was wrong... terribly wrong... something was about to happen...
The question was just what and when?
I knew Ray well, and the last time my wolf freaked out like that was when we found our mate...
I had spoken to Kate earlier, she seemed fine, and she said she was going out with her aunt.
Even though I didn't trust Kate's aunt Rose, I believe that this she-wolf wouldn't be able to do much harm on a simple lunch date... I sighed, because of Ray, I got Greyson to track Kate's phone, just in case things went south. Greyson came running into my office, closing the door behind him and searching for my gaze.
"Hell, Xavier, where's the fire?" He asked, and my face darkened.
Ray was pushing his worry and anxiety from behind the wall, which made me irritable...
"Where is Kate?" I growled and Greyson took a step back.
He looked at me in shock, and his eyes reflected worry.
"Her last position was at the Royal Hotel," he answered and shifted his head before he asked why.
"Which Royal Hotel?" I asked, keeping his gaze pinned.
Ray had broken through the wall, and he was scratching at the surface.
"The one built in the human town close by..." he answered.
"The one owned by Alpha Nathan?" I asked.
"I am assuming so..." Greyson answered.
Alpha Nathan Murphy was a sly and ruthless Alpha. He was known to have she-wolves disappear without a trace... selling them off as slaves on the black market to whoever was willing to pay for them... "F*ck!" I swore and jumped from my seat.
"Xavier," Greyson stopped me, "where are you going?"
"To get Kate!"
"But you don't know if she is in danger or not!" He argued, "She will be pissed if you barge in there..."
"She will understand!" I growled.
"Will she?" He argued, "Kate is capable of looking after herself while she is out with her aunt... she might think you stalked her if you just dropped by unannounced!"
At that very second, my phone rang, and the name on the display screamed Kate's name.
A cold shiver ran down my body as I pushed the green button on the display.
"Hello? Kate?"
The sound of someone's body dropping to the floor, and the whimpering sound like someone was suffering and in severe pain screamed over the receiver. Everything slowed around me as I stared blankly before me in shock. I knew who the breathing and whimpering sounds belonged to...
My heart drummed uncontrollably against my ribcage...
Ray released a roar inside my mind, bringing me back.
I extended my claws and grabbed Greyson around his neck, and hissed out furiously.
"She is in trouble!" I roared, shaking the windows on the floor.
"Find her! Find her now!"
I dropped Greyson, and he scattered to his feet, then ran out the door.
I grabbed my black leather jacket, motorbike keys, and helmet, and rushed out the door.
This time I took the stairs, skipping the stair steps in between as I ran down the twenty floors. I need to release some steam before I kill someone.
Once in the basement, I jumped on my bike and started the engine.
The black Harley Davidson roared to life, as she purred beneath me.
"Status!" I roared over the mind-link as I drove out of the parking bay.
"She didn't leave the Royal Hotel," Greyson answered.
"Follow by car!" I ordered, "And have the doctor on standby!"
"Very well!"
Twenty minutes later, I parked the bike on the side road, left my helmet on the bike, and rushed into the hotel.
I lifted my nose in the air, searching for any sign of Kate.
"Good afternoon, sir," a waiter with short blond hair greeted me politely. I could smell that he was a wolf and most probably one of Nathan's pack members. "Do you have a reservation?"
I shook my head, and pushed past the waiter, finding a faint lavender scent. It must belong to Kate.
"Sir!" The waiter tried to stop me, "If you do not..."
I stopped and turned, expanding my aura...
"If I what..?" I roared.
The waiter whimpered, and dropped his head, afraid of what I would do to him.
"I thought so!" I growled under my breath, turned on my heels, and headed down the hallway in search of Kate.
My nose directed me to the restaurant, passing the men's and ladies' restroom and I stopped at the restaurant doors listening, concentrating...
Kate wasn't in the restaurant... I was sure of it... my head snapped back to the ladies' restroom close by...
If I were Kate, I would try and hide...
I slowly walked back, opened the ladies' restroom door, and took a whiff.
No sign of any other woman inside, yet Kate's intoxicating scent was inside.
I didn't even think it through, walking into the ladies' restroom, and following Kate's scent.
The ladies restroom was luxurious, with huge mirrors against the walls and basins made out of cream marble.
I ignored it, knowing this place was built from blood money.
I stopped at the last pedestal, finding Kate's phone on the floor, picked it up, and put it into my pocket. I could hear Kate's breathing and whimpering behind the door. "Kate!?" I called from the pedestal door, hoping for her to answer me.
I tried a bit louder, praying that she could hear me.
"Mmm," she eventually reacted, her breathing thick and deep.
"It's me, Xavier," I whispered, "please open the door, love..."
Yet, Kate didn't open the door.
Ray didn't give me time to think, and forcefully took control, shoving me to the back and extracting a claw, ripping the wooden door to shreds in one single slash. "That's how easy it is!" he growled at me and gave control back.
"Goddess!" I groaned, seeing Kate lying on the floor, her head and shoulders between the toilet and the wall.
I stalked forward, pressing my fingers on Kate's neck to take her pulse. Her heart was racing like she was running a marathon.
I pulled my phone out of my jacket pocket and called Greyson.
"Where are you?"
"I just stopped," he answered.
"Ladies' restroom, next to the restaurant..." I said and cut the call.
I carefully pulled Kate's body into a sitting position and then helped her feet.
She dragged her eyes open, seeing me, and then her eyes rolled back.
"You are safe now," I whispered and picked her up bridal style, then walked out of the ladies' restroom.
Greyson came around the corner the second I walked out.
"Is she?"
"No!" I growled, still pissed at him.
"The car is waiting..." he said, and I rushed behind him to the exit.
Greyson opened the back door of the SUV, and a sense of déjà vu flashed before my mind.
I helped Kate into the SUV and closed the door.
"I'll meet you home!" I said, walked to my bike, grabbed the helmet, and brought the Harley to life, then sped off toward my pack.
An hour later, Kate was in my guest room, with the doctor by her side.
Ray had calmed down, now that Kate was safely under my roof.
I waited outside the guest room, pacing up and down.
What if I was too late? What would have happened? Would Nathan get his claws into her? Use and abuse her? Sell her off?
More and more questions popped into my mind, and the more they came, the angrier I became.
"Alpha," the doctor called, and my gaze snapped in the direction of his voice. I haven't heard him exit the door.
"Yes," I answered and walked closer, "how is she?"
I couldn't bare being with Kate in the car, I could bare seeing this... this... who the f*ck would do such a thing! "She will be fine," the doctor reassured me.
I shifted my head to the side and lifted an eyebrow. The doctor was deliberately withholding something. "But?" I asked.
"She might not remember much..." he said, and hesitated...
"And..?"
"The drug might or might not have some negative effects?" He answered.
"What kind of negative effects?" I asked, worried.
"Uhm," the good old doctor looked uncomfortable and dropped his gaze, "the drug is formulated to heighten a person's sexual needs..."
"Explain!" I demanded.
The doctor sighed and lifted his gaze.
"If anyone goes near her when she wakes up, she might want to..."
"...f*ck their brains out..?" Ray took control and understood the issue.
"Yes," the doctor confirmed.
I released a fierce growl, and my hands shifted into fists.
If anyone dares touch my mate, I will certainly rip them apart.
The doctor sighed and patted my shoulder.
"I can see you care a lot for her, Alpha. I suggest you keep her away from anyone until the drug wore off..."
It was around 2 am when I heard Kate's bedroom door open and my eyes snapped toward the door.
She peeked her head out, looking around.
I got to my feet, careful not to startle her, and walked closer.
"I see you are awake," I said, "feeling better?"
Her gaze found mine, and a smile followed on her lips, before I could sense what she was about to do, her lips crushed onto mine with so much hunger and need, it was hard and almost impossible to push her back. I was certain at that second that the drug hadn't worn off... "Xavier..." she whimpered, "don't you want me..?"
