Chapter Swept Into a Fairytale Marriage 67
Chapter 67 Caring for Each Other
“You’d better behave. Be a good boss at work, a good husband at home, and a good father in the future!”
Adrian felt suffocated by his marriage. Usually, the wife would have to deal with her mother–in–law, but in his case, he felt like an oppressed daughter–in–law. Philip was way too controlling.
Meanwhile, Farrah was having the time of her life. She effortlessly won Philip’s affection, and he always took her side.
“Fay, why did you suddenly get married?” Riley asked nervously, cupping her coffee mug in the café outside the mall. “Did your dad force you into it? You didn’t even have a boyfriend, so how could you possibly get married so fast?”
Not wanting to worry Riley, Farrah explained with a smile, “That’s not it. I just… met a suitable guy and had a whirlwind wedding with him.”
“That’s not like you at all. Why would you agree to a flash wedding?” Riley was especially worried that Farrah had been forced into it.
She was afraid her friend would not be happy and advised, “Fay, marriage is a big deal. It’s like a woman’s second chance at life. You need to be careful.”
Farrah keenly sensed something in Riley’s tone. Caught off guard, she took a sip of coffee and continued to listen to Riley.
“It’s easy to find someone nice to you, but it’s rare to find someone who treats you the same way over time.” Even though Riley was smiling, her voice was tinged with melancholy
“We should only marry someone we really, really like. A slight affection isn’t enough–it won’t last through the long years ahead.”
“Riley, is Ryan not treating you well? What did he do?” Farrah asked.
Riley’s chest tightened. She avoided Farrah’s gaze and took a sip of coffee to compose herself.
“I’ll kick his butt!” Farrah exclaimed, angry at seeing tears in her best friend’s eyes. “What happened to all those vows he made at the wedding? He said he’d treat you well and cherish you forever! What did he do?
Then, Farrah noticed the bruises on Riley’s neck, and her eyes widened in shock.
“Riley, did he hit you? Did he choke you?”
Riley felt a lump in her throat, feeling really upset. Nonetheless, she was aware they were in public and glanced around awkwardly. Farrah also realized they were in a public place and lowered her voice despite her anger.
“What’s going on? What happened?”
Riley had no family in this city, and Farrah was her best friend. So, feeling wronged and being under her friend’s questioning, she could not help but confide in Farrah.
Ryan had changed entirely before and after the wedding, especially after getting a new job with a higher salary. He was always out early and home late.
Farrah listened to her friend’s confession and grew furious. “Ryan switched to Prestige Group? Just because of a ten–thousand–dollar raise? Does he think he’s some big shot now? Has he lost his mind?”
Chapper of Curing for Each Other
“He was one of the top two candidates selected, so he does feel pretty special,” Riley explained, her words laced with anxiety, “I feel like pregnancy and having a baby have disconnected me from the world. The gap between us is growing.”
“That’s just your imagination,” Farrah reassured her. “Don’t sell yourself short. You had great potential in journalism.”
“The real conflict might be because his mom is coming to help with the baby.” Riley sighed. She was also noticeably thinner, clearly stressed by the situation.
“They say hiring a nanny would be more expensive, but it’s easier to communicate with a nanny. There are so many things I can’t say directly to my mother–in–law,
“The relationship between a woman and her mother–in–law has always been tough to maneuver,” Farrah replied. “In my opinion, the main problem is Ryan himself. If there’s tension between you and his mom, he’s largely responsible. He’s not being a good mediator.
“I’ll definitely give him a piece of my mind when I see him!”
“Fay,” Riley said, looking tired and uninterested. “How are you doing? Ryan and I have been in a
relationship for years and still have so many issues after getting married. Is everything okay with your whirlwind marriage?”
