Chapter Swept Into a Fairytale Marriage 69
Chapter 69 A Disappointing Stepfather
Farrah immediately hailed a cab to the apartment after hanging up the phone. During the ride, she recalled Jodie’s words, her heart clenching with worry and anger. Upon arriving at the apartment, she found the place in complete disarray, worse than if it had been robbed.
Jodie lay amidst the chaos, sobbing heartbrokenly.
“Mom!” Farrah rushed in, dropping her shopping bags and hurrying to help Jodie up. “Are you okay? Are you hurt?”
Jodie shook her head tearfully. “I’m not hurt, but Steven took every last penny… That was Mason’s college fund.”
“Didn’t he already get a million dollars?” Farrah was baffled. “How long has it been? How did he blow through it so fast?”
“Fay, gambling is a bottomless pit…” Jodie looked disheveled, her clothes in disarray. She was really sad and had lost all hope for the future.

“I’m so worried about Mason. He’s taking the college year… Kids‘ mental health is such a big issue these days. He might not be as strong as you.
“Mom, don’t worry about the tuition. I’ve got it covered,” Farrah assured her as she looked around. “You can’t stay here anymore. You need to move quickly. I’ll ask someone to arrange a school transfer for Mason.”
“Ask someone?” Jodie thought it was a tricky situation. “Who can you ask? Your husband? You had a whirlwind marriage with no emotional foundation. I don’t want to burden you. Besides, he might not even help.”
“Mom, how can you call it a burden?” Farrah comforted her. “For Adrian, this might be a small favor.”
Transferring schools would be ideal because it would also prevent Steven from tracking them down. To ease Jodie’s concerns, Farrah added, “Even if Adrian isn’t obligated to help us, I’m sure I can return the favor someday. Don’t worry too much. I’ll handle Mason’s transfer.”
“Fay, I’m so sorry. You’re married now, and I’m still causing you trouble.”
“What are you saying? Just because I’m married doesn’t mean I’m not your daughter anymore.” Farrah pulled Jodie into her embrace.
Then, she started searching for other apartment units on her phone. “Let’s move first.”
After helping Jodie pack up, they moved. Three hours later, Farrah finally got Jodie settled in. Mason was still at school, and since Steven had just been to their old place, he probably would not return for a while.
“He thinks the Locke family is rich. If they could give him a million dollars, they’d surely give me a million too. He came for that million,” Jodie said with a sigh.
In fact, he had guessed correctly, but Jodie had not accepted the money at the time.
Farrah was clear–headed and asked calmly, “Mom, what if I send him to jail? Will you be able to understand?”
However, Jodie was shocked by this suggestion. She stared at Farrah in disbelief, too stunned to respond Immediately. Seeing Jodie’s lingering attachment, Farrah quickly backtracked. “I’m just asking. Don’t think
too much about it.”
After all, Jodie and Steven had been ma

If Steven went to jail, it would be hard for Mason to find a wife in the future. Moreover, the Tate family would be looked down upon.
Indeed, Jodie still held onto the last shred of hope for this good–for–nothing man, wishing he would change for their son’s sake.
“Fay, how are you doing? Has it been tough? Are you being treated well?” Jodie gripped Farrah’s arm, examining her closely. “Have you lost weight? Is Adrian good to you? Are you being mistreated because of our family?”
“Not at all.” Farrah smiled, reassuring her mother. “He treats me very well. I went shopping today using his card, and the rent for this apartment is on his card too,
After that, Farrah said goodbye to Jodie as it was time to head home. Jodie felt guilty that her family could not be a source of support for Farrah in her marriage.
Farrah comforted her, saying, “Don’t worry. I’m very happy.”
In the study of Unit 2801, Floral Spring Residences, Adrian stared at the last expense notification on his phone, puzzled. It was a transaction for 8,000 dollars, and he wondered if something had happened to Farrah.
